Day for Admitted Honors College Students

We just returned from the Day for Admitted Honors College Students. Another one will be held on April 8th. It is a worthwhile experience. Check-in begins at 8:15 AM (we had three conflicting times in our possession) and they provide a continental breakfast.

At 9 AM there is a general info session for the Honors College. During the remainder of the day, you can choose from a variety of options, however, specific information about the school you have been admitted to is only offered during that first breakout session. Other options included an Upper Campus Tour, Lower Campus Tour, City of Pittsburgh Tour, What Happens Next? (enrollment), Study Abroad Information, Why Choose Pittsburgh, and an option for out of town students who have already paid their enrollment fee to register for classes instead of making another trip for PittStart. Each session was about an hour in length. The last session ended at 3:30 PM.

Free lunch is included, although we opted to eat at Panera Bread.

Our only frustration was that there didn't seem to be enough time to participate in all of the sessions we wanted to. Because we stopped for lunch, we missed attending an entire session. By the end of the day, we were exhausted from the fast paced schedule. Then we had to drive 250 miles!

But...true to Pitt form, the day was very well organized, and there was always someone who was ready to answer a question or direct you to your next activity.

The day is well worth it for those of you still undecided about whether to attend. You do need to register prior to attendance.

There was some difference between the Honors and the regular admitted students day.

For the regular admitted day: there was no check-in and they didn’t ask whether you registered or not. The presentation at the regular admitted day was a little different and much shorter!! They did a general overview and then broke up the group to go to their respective schools. They did have Pathfinders throwing t-shirts/small footballs into the audience.

Breakfast and lunch was the same (continental breakfast except they did have a spread on the 7th floor – they didn’t have this on the Honors Day and Market Central for lunch). They will have a bigger activity fair in the afternoon versus the Honors Day. The tours are the same: campus, bus tour of Pittsburgh etc.

DS noticed the difference in the pen they included in the bag. Honors – much nicer and more deluxe pen, Regular admitted – just a regular pen/like a bic. I am sure there will be a difference in the gift for the survey. Honors - t-shirt, pen, sticker and water bottle. Regular – I predict just the t-shirt.

With the numerous information sessions, we always split up. Then we don’t feel as though we miss anything.

Is anyone attending the admitted Honors Student program tomorrow?
