Admitted Student Overnight

Is anyone going to one of these? Has anyone already been and can tell us what it’s like?

My son is planning to go in April. I am also curious about feedback from other participants.

My daughter is attending the overnight session on April 2-3.

I’ll be attending the Diversity Weekend in mid-April. I’ll post feedback afterwards.

Basically, they assign the prospie to a student (almost always a freshman). When they pick you up, they have this big event with food, and clubs do demos. It’s pretty fun. The hosting student is typically required to take the prospie to at least one prospie event. This typically involves eating ice cream and socializing with students. Most of the time the prospies will go home with the student and hang out with all the host’s friends for the rest of the night. When I did it, my host took me to a play. I’ve also heard of hosts taking their prospie to see the Cleveland Orchestra. The overnights are a good way to interact with actual student body members (not just people case pays to talk to you). Most of the time the hosts go out of their way to finish their homework and make the evening fun.

That’s pretty much it. If you have any other questions, let me know.

I just did an overnight this week, and what ohiokid1234 said seemed pretty accurate to me. The first day is a lot of open house type events with presentations, tours, and information sessions. You meet your host around 5 pm, and then we ate dinner, hung out at the dorms, and got ice cream. Depending on what you want to do you can go to a play or go out, but either way it is definitely a great way to get a feel of the student body and see what the school is like from a student’s perspective (rather than an open house perspective).
