Does anyone know what is planned for this day besides the tour? Has anyone attended in previous years, and would you recommend it or not? Is anyone going? We are out of state and trying to decide if we should make the trip or not?

sewingmom: They have their program info listed on their website: http://admission.lmu.edu/visit/previewday/programinformation/
Having sent one to college already, I would recommend going and getting as much info as possible. My daughter has committed (Dance Major) and we will be attending from out of state as well. I’ve seen your posts in the Dance Major forums, so assuming your daughter will be a D.M. there as well? If so, would be nice to meet up.

Thanks for the link. I can not believe both D and I missed the link. I think we were looking at it on our phones.
Yes, D is a Dance Major though she has not committed yet. LMU is her first choice so I am not sure why she wants to wait, maybe because things are just busy and she wants a minute to think… We were just there last week and saw RENT. D wants to minor or double major in theatre. We really want to come but D has an out of state dance competition that weekend and of course the schedule is not out yet so we do not know which day she competes. Ideally if she competes on Friday or Saturday she could fly Saturday night to LA and it would all work out. Her studio owner is calling the competition people today to see if she can find out when D competes and see if we can make this all happen.
We would like to meet up. I do not know how PMs work on this board but I do not know if I have enough posts to PM you, if I do I will.

I sent you a PM so check you inbox.

I went to admitted student day with my son a few years ago. We went because he was on the fence about where to attend. There was nothing particularly compelling about the program; if you have been for a tour and info session there will not be much new. Meetings for parents include info about food plans and stuff about services that are available to students, but my experience with that is that the students needs to hear that more than parents. Personally, I would not miss the dance competition for it unless she just really needs to see it one more time before deciding. jmo.

Admitted students day absolutely sealed the deal for my son in 2011. He had never been there, and we had not heard of jt before College confidential. It was pretty spectacular. As in a spectacle, but not really in a bad way. We are from N.Cal. We hoped Santa Clara would match it, and son would go there, but it was not to be. We had also been to some other Jesuit schools admitted student days.

Thanks everyone. DD really wants to go. She wants to meet up with some of the people she has meet on facebook. Now we just have to wait until Friday to get the dance schedule. Hopefully, it will all work out.

I agree with shrinkrap that the admitted student days at any institution are essential because more information is better than less when making the BIG decision. You never know what may happen that will strike your student and you. Housing, degree of student friendliness (and making new friends early for fall!), food court, professors’ attention toward students, the grounds, etc. Good, bad, indifferent–it’s all valuable. Plus, if you’re trying to save NOW on airfare, you’re not considering how your child will get back and forth from wherever you are and LMU. LMU’s only 5 minutes from LAX, so the good news is you don’t have to drive all over kingdom come to get to your child’s university. With LMU, you can also schedule visits and meetings at unofficial times. DD has some questions about internships and career placement for her degree program and we have made arrangements to meet with the department chair this week. Faculty and administration will make time for you even if it’s not the official admitted student day at LMU!
