Hi everyone-
I just booked me and my parent’s flight to Washington for the weekend of the 20th and went to register to the Admitted Student’s Preview Day, when I saw that the event, including the waitlist, is completely full!! I really wanted to go to this day, as evidenced by the already bought plane tickets, and wanted to see if there’s anyone in the same boat.
Should I email them? If you’re in the same boat, what are you going to do? I don’t see why they just didn’t plan that everyone that got into the school would attend the admitted student’s event…
Thank you in advance.
Plane tickets are refundable if you cancel in 24 hours.
You need to pick another day to visit. Even though the special programs are not a viable, you can take a regular campus tour, sit in on a class, ask last-minute questions of admissions, and depending on major, meet with an advisor. (The high demand major advisors may not have appointments, but if you’re applying to a small program it may be possible.)
This happened to us and it was fine. We did the regular tour and the dorm tour, hung around campus, went to restuarants on the Ave, sat in on a class … the only thing DS missed was the actual talk before the tour, which was about ahalf hour. So we didn’t miss much.
Psssst, don’t tell anyone else, but here’s a secret: they will allow walk-ins even if you couldn’t register. They have table to handle on-the-spot registration. They will not turn you away if you show up on campus.
We registered for the 4/7 visit day, which is probably the most popular day since it’s the only one on a weekend and it’s in the Spring break for a lot of local students. When we showed up, they couldn’t find our registration record! They just write son’s name on a new tag and let us in. The only thing we missed – there’s a raffle ticket on the back of pre-registered students’ name tag and you could win Husky gears. Only 3 prizes for hundreds (may be thousand) of students, so not much of a difference anyway.
