S will visit campus next week. For us, this requires a plane ticket and an overnight stay. So, I want him to get as much from the visit as possible.

He will be able to catch some of the admitted student open house activities on Wednesday (there are some academic presentations and a presentation on the music program, for example). He has been on a campus tour already. He will have dinner and stay overnight with a WPI student.

Nothing formal is planned Thursday morning. The official visit is over at Noon. So, what might be some other things to try and do while he is there to get a feel for what attending WPI is like? He plans to major in ECE thinking about working in the computer hardware industry. Are there any classes he could attend in the morning? A professor who he should try and meet or lab he should see? Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions you might have.

I’m not an ECE major, but I would definitely recommend sitting in on a class (not just info sessions). Unfortunately, we have no class this Thursday, so he would have to skip some of the Open House programming on Wednesday.
There seem to be a lot of labs going on Wednesday afternoon, but I don’t know if that would be all that beneficial for your son. Probably the best bet is to email the ECE department head or admissions to see if they can coordinate something.

Thank you. They didn’t tell us in the admissions office that are no classes on the 21st. I’m not too happy to find that out. I hope the trip is stil worthwhile. We will contact them and see what class he could visit Wednesday afternoon.

There will be no undergrad courses meeting on Thursday, but there will be people on campus for project work, I believe. I don’t think it will be a ghost town.

My ds and I will be attending the open house for accepted as well as the breakfast for merit scholars.
