Admitted Students April Overnights - Worth It?

If I was accepted ED1, and I’ve already committed to UChicago, is it worth it to go for an April Overnight? Pro’s and con’s? Specifically, what are some things that I will do at an April Overnight that I wouldn’t be able to do during Orientation Week in September?

Thanks in advance!

It’s pretty fun, imo. The only cons are that you might end up in a dorm you don’t like or with a bad host and that you might have to spend money to come.

O-Week isn’t really meant to be as fun. There are some fun things in it, but mostly it’s kind of exhausting and a little intimidating.

DD met some kids that she was besties with through spring and summer until they were replaced by others from her house in September. Also got some ideas about which classes to think about signing up for. Came back very excited about attending…which of course made the subsequent months verrrry long.

If it’s a financial hardship, I would guess no but if it’s not a big deal, it’s good to go.

  1. check out the dorm(s) so you can make a more informed choice. 2. Bring your parents so they can be duly impressed and you can hang out with them in Hyde Park (they separate students and parents during Orientation). 3. Hang out with some students at night - yes you'll do that later as well, but it's a nice preview of coming attractions. (this is all predicated on having the cash to do this. It's certainly a luxury to some extent, but it's really a nice couple of days)

I’m going! A little hesitant because it’s really gonna put me out of my comfort zone (being on my own and stuff), but I think it’ll be good to meet other people in our class and check out campus. Basically I think the pros outweigh the cons––for me at least. Also my big bro just graduated UChicago and said the overnight is where he met two of his close friends. PM me if you want me to ask him any questions. Best of luck and hope to see you there!

can i sign up after march 30th? lol

If I get in I am planning to tour Max Pavlevsky or the BJ. Fortunately I live near Chicago so it will be easy

Yes! Do it! It’ll get you excited and motivated to study hard for those AP credits and study stuff you like on your own.
