Admitted Students Day/Tour

Does OSU do an admitted students day? I have been unable to find any information suggesting there is such a day. I believe some programs may have admitted students functions specific to those programs but I have not seen anything specific to the program my son will be entering (political science) and so was wondering about a broader admitted students day.

I see information about doing an admitted students tour. Is this worthwhile? My son did a prospective student tour last year and we were wondering whether this tour would be essentially just a duplicate of the prospective student tour.

Our S was admitted this year and he received an email about a “Buckeye Bound” program - he could pick one of three or four dates to visit campus with other admitted students.

He also received a postcard about an admitted students event in our local area.

My daughter received notification of a travel grant (we are OOS) for travel to OSU on 4/6-7 for goBuckeye Day event. Not completely sure what the event entails-there is a dinner and seems to be a tour on 4/7.

My DS received the same info and postcard on Buckeye Bound that @gclsports did.

@simple0920 We received the same post card but our dates are 4/5 and 4/6 and it includes a very generous travel grant as well… Very impressed with OHIO STATE. throughout this whole application process.

@1917souci yes-sorry my dates are also 4/5-6. And we are definitely taking advantage of the travel grant as well!

Thanks for all the responses. My son sent his acceptance fee in November so it’s puzzling that he hasn’t received any information. He will likely call admissions.

I just called the admissions office about why my daughter had not received an invite to an admitted student day and was advised that since we had paid her registration we were not sent the invite. I did indicate that many likely would still like to attend even if registered. They did give me an access code to register.

Oh and the travel grant is need-based so not all will receive it.

@Rmcgrath OSUs website states “Eligible prospective students are selected by Undergraduate Admissions at Ohio State in alignment with the university’s Strategic Enrollment Plan. Ohio State’s travel grant program has limited funds and we are only able to offer to a selected group of students.” I do not believe this means the travel grants are need-based but more academically-based.

@gradclass2022 that is what admissions told me when I called. I was just repeating exactly what was said to me. This may be one of the criteria they use.

@Rmcgrath Oh, interesting. I thought it was mostly academics based, but thank you for your information

It would be great if others call so that we can confirm that the same information is provided with each call. I am guessing that academics is also a major contributor to the decisions made. I would imagine the funds are limited and only go to the best candidates that meet the other requirements.

We are headed down next week and will have our admitted student tour on 2/2/2018. I can’t wait, I really hope he likes the campus. It’s a shorter drive for us than Cinci.

We registered for a Buckeye Bound date in March after getting an email invite a couple days back. No travel grant provided or needed as we were already scheduled to tour some nearby colleges.

@CollegeGuy2018 I’ll be there with my DS on 2/2 as well. Hope your son likes it too!

I was invited to College of Arts and Sciences Experience Day and the multicultural breakfast. They offered me one night of free lodging.

Coming on 2/2 for the Admitted Student Day and received the travel grant. Scholarship interview weekend as well. So excited.

Attended Buckeye Bound today, happy to answer questions if anyone has them.

How did Buckeye Bound compare to a “normal” admitted student visit/tour? What did you take away as the biggest benefit of attending? Thanks for any guidanve!
