<p>Was unable to attend ADOCH, how was it? Did it help you decde on BROWN and why? What schools are people deciding between? THANKS</p>
<p>I would like to share my fresh impressions of Brown......AWESOME!!!!!</p>
<p>I was extremely impressed by the wit of the faculty, their sense of humor and the feeling they conveyed that they love to teach and are there so the students can learn. The brief presentations of the different faculty members during the STEM session were hilarious, motivating and I believe give an excellent idea of what it would be like to be in their classrooms.</p>
<p>I love the campus, set up on the hill and with so much lively activity around. I like the feel of the Main Green with the old buildings around....the overall energy was great. People smiled when you passed then by, were polite and helpful eveywhere !.. Also..( and kind of silly I know...) my favorite store is right on Thayer...Urban Outfitters!!</p>
<p>I loved the fact that the whole campus was making the prospies feel so welcomed. So many activities going on...! ( I went to bed at almost 3 AM )</p>
<p>As far as academics, no question the sciences are very strong here too! (Math, Applied Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Geology ) I would not hesitate to come here for any of these fields.</p>
<p>Dorms - Freshmen get doubles which is like most places I have visited. I was not expecting anything different. Dorms I saw were spacious. Not too good but not bad either.</p>
<p>I loved all the prospies that I came in contact with! If this is a reflection of the incoming class, Brown certainly knows whom to admit..I felt i clicked with the all the people I met.</p>
<p>The people i talked to were deciding between (Brown and Yale) or (Brown Columbia and JHU) or ( Brown and Penn ) or ( Brown, Carnegie Mellon and Cornell ) or ( Brown, Cornell and Princeton ) or ( Brown and Dartmouth ) just to name a few of the combinations i remember. Most prospies were inclined to go to Brown and at the end, money may influence some of the decisions. </p>
<p>I got the feeling that a lot of people were from the Northeast.. A lot of Mass, NH, NY and CT...</p>
<p>As the President said, Brown does not only want their students to be smart, bright and dedicated in academics but also great human beings who want the best for their fellow men. I think that this is a major distinction from some other ivies. The student is seen as a "human being" , a "person" ....</p>
<p>I was surprised to know how well the reg adcoms knew us and remembered us from our applications. It was all very personal!</p>
<p>I was laughing when i saw pamphlets promoting an upcoming speech from someone about Al Gore's environmental theories being a fraud...It certainly shows that the school may be liberal but tolerant of opposite views!</p>
<p>The weather sucked! It was cold (high today 43) dreary and rainy..But everyone in Providence ( town people not students) was saying how this was one of the worst days they have had all winter..... and in spite of that, I did not find it that bad!...so I am glad I got to see this..It means I can handle the rest..!</p>
<p>Overall, I think Brown is certainly a class act! I am very lucky to have been admitted and I saw first hand why the University is so strong academically and the students so happy !</p>

<p>yeah, i mean yes we were in an 800mile storm system for the past few days, but there was some ****ing horrible days this winter. Valentine's day anyone? (i believe it was in the 20s that day with freezing rain)</p>

<p>Also it was almost 60 until we left in December.</p>
<p>that's true, the winter did get a late start, but it sure made up for it.</p>
<p>The people I met at ADOCH were all very nice and many current students helped with directions etc and the pre-frosh all introduced themselves to each other. I went to some classes (Molecular Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology and Comparative Anatomy of the Vertebrates) and most of the classes were smaller than those I observed at Cornell and Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology both answered student questions. The professor for Cell Biology was really good and even knew the students names. The one for Comparative Anatomy was hard to understand on account of her heavy accent and stuttering but I think you get that anywhere. The dorms were of a fair size compared to other schools (all doubles for freshman) but seemed kind of run-down compared to other dorms I had seen (they are not carpeted either). The three pre-frosh in the room all elected to sleep elsewhere because our room was disgustingly dirty, but I think that is a personal problem. One thing I did notice about Brown is the fact that the campus is more urban than the tours often show. There are a couple of quads but many of the buildings are rather spread around the city streets, a fact which I wasn’t particularly found of (I’m from the country). Overall, it was a nice opportunity to meet potential classmates. After meeting some and seeing the campus more thoroughly, I feel that I might prefer Cornell, but the smaller class sizes are a definite plus.</p>
<p>Oh, and the food I had was NOT good. But I didn't eat at the Ratty, I had a gross burger at Josiah's. I have no idea how food is in the Ratty.</p>

<p>ADOCH was amazing. I really wasn't expecting my favorite aspect of the university I choose to to be the people (as opposed to academics, location, or nice architecture), but that's how I felt after the program. Everyone was really nice, willing to help you out, and really wanted you to attend Brown.</p>
<p>STEM was a great opportunity to see the sciences at Brown. The introduction to the faculty was great and showed a lot of enthusiam on their part. The lectures I went to were not stellar, but I think the professors weren't aware of what STEM was, so I won't hold it against them. </p>
<p>ADOCH was great. Met lots of great people. I don't know about you guys but the comedy act was just hands down ridiculous (and I mean that in a good way). Ridiculously talented. Oh yeah and Ruth Simmons, I think that's how you spell it w/e, she's an amazing speaker.</p>
<p>The level of discussion in the classes I sat in on was really high. Coming from a crappy high school, though, I'm not used to incredible discussions.</p>
<p>In short, the program swayed my decision. Brown it is.</p>
<p>Speaker, glad to hear it. ADOCH was designed to tip the scales and it's always great to here that it occasionally does for someone. For me, the people were definitely the best part of ADOCH as well.</p>
