Impressions from ADOCH

Hey, 09er here. I am just wondering what you guys felt about ADOCH. Did you have a positive experience? Anyone change their mind either way because of it?

I liked it and kind of wish it was longer. I also think that the panels should have been ongoing throughout the day because there were many classes that I wanted to see as well as see a few discussions that were occuring simultaneously.

I was already commited to going (ED) before ADOCH, but this event only further reinforced my exhiliration for Brown!

pretty cool. 2 of the 3 classes I went to were horribly boring but the third was an awsome IR class and since thats what I want to do...it worked out.

i had a blast at sig chi

narf glad you had a good time, and i hope everyone who came to our party did too, we put a lot of work into it and it was a great success

I went to ADOCH and had an absolute blast. My host lived in NP 4 - anybody else there? - and he was awesome. Well, I went to one class on Wednesday - Intro to Logic - which was a complete bore, although I kind of expected that from a class with that title. The most fun I had was on Tuesday night where we went to the ImProv at midnight and kind of walked around looking for a series of non-existent parties thrown by Students for a Sensible Drug Policy. I digress, but it was a ton of fun and I learned a lot about Brown. By the way, anybody from Ohio (Cleveland area) on CC???

Hah! I also lived in NP4 and went to Intro to Logic. NP4 wasn't bad, but I hope I end up in Keeney or Hope. Intro to Logic was miserable, but it was the fault of the course matter, not the prof. I also was about to go to the SSDP party, but it was in the process of being broken up when I got there, so I went to a party in the basement of someplace in Wriston Quad.

Delta Tau lol --- crazy party, and i use crazy in the sense of "crazy on a tuesday night party"

I stayed in Hope and it was AWSOME.

The rooms are like double the size of my bedroom now and are really big...and the rooms are really big...and it has a great location.

Haha... if any of you had asked me, I would have warned you against going to Intro to Logic. The guy teaching it this semester's a bore. I'm going to shop it every time it's offered until someone interesting teaches it!

-Improvidence on Tuesday night was nice!
-Thayer Street was pretty awesome
-History of Modern Philosophy class...amazing!
-Stayed in Keeney...didn't stay there for very long, but didn't like dorm life much (although it's probably the norm for colleges)
-Brown seems pretty laid back academically.
-Didn't go to any parties...oh well :)
-For some reason, of the people I met, only a few were matriculating, so I guess I didn't really meet many future classmates
-Nice campus...lots of walking though :)
-Weather wasn't as bad as I expected...can I go running outside during the winter?
-Didn't get a chance to see the dining halls/food

Izo --

What was it about dorm life that you didn't like?
No, you probably can't go running outside during the coldest parts of the winter.

I would also think you can't run outside in the dead of winter, but really, you won't be here for the worst part of winter since that lies over spring break (though February is just as much a ***** in some years). Also, I do know people who ran in the snow, so it may depend on the person.

I HATED ADOCH. It wasn't so much ADOCH itself, but I just realized that I didn't really fit in w/ the "quirky" student body.

felixfelicis -- what didn't you like about the student body? I'm really curioius.

for me, the students already at brown seemed so cool, but i found it hard to really click with any fellow prefrosh.. im sure once we are all settled on going to brown and decisions are done it will be better though. but i had a great time!

i had the same experience. The prefrosh student body was so weird and impersonable at adoch. TWW felt much better though. But i do get the sense of quirky, weird, and naturally smart feel of the student body, and i dont know if i want to be part of that. The freshman hosts were riduculously friendly and helpful and were so chill, but i'm not so sure about Brown anymore. Making a final decision by this saturday will be so hard, it's riduculous.

Well, I can tell you I did not enjoy ADOCH last year either, but still loved the school and so decided to come. Everything about the school I didn't like because of what I experienced at ADOCH turned out to be wrong so I guess that's why I started this thread. I couldn't relate to just about any of the prefrosh I met, they all seemed rather pretentious, the guys I stayed with were nice, but more apathetic towards Brown and myself than anything I expected, etc.

I am glad I made my choice based on the school and on the feeling that I had only a small sampling of students and social options.

RChen, just so you know, I'd say far more students are just chill than quirky. In fact, I love the fact that people aren't nearly as quirky as the reputation is. Most people I know are very normal people that I could have met anywhere, except generally more intelligent.
