8 pages is fine as long as it’s your best work

omg
!!! OH MY GOSH I STAN YOU NOTICED ME I’M GONNA CRY :,) @heyimpeter
Do they send out a mass email releasing all the decisions at once? From reading an old blog post from 2017 they had filled half of their spots by March 31 last year. Do they notify people on a rolling basis or all we all waiting until mid May?
i don’t think they do rolling admissions anymore? cause if they do i’m screwed lmao but i got my email last year on may 22 if that helps
Yeah they don’t do rolling admissions anymore (I think) since all the other writing organizations emailed out an advert for it within the last week or so.
uh just to make sure we can submit on 4/15 right?
To clear up a couple q’s on here -
- You can totally submit until 11:59pm PT tomorrow (4/15).
- We haven’t done rolling admissions since 2017, so no worries there.
- We don’t release official admission statistics, but I’ll say that we’re anticipating an acceptance rate of under 10%. Every year, saying no to so many talented students due to sheer size constraints is the worst part of the gig so please don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work out!
Best of luck!
@wontonandrice @wistfulwords @soliloquie @quirkysloth (also lol at your username - amazing <3 )
@heyimpeter what holy crap thats crazy
Thanks for the info though!
@heyimpeter Also, I just wanted to ask if only having 4 poems disadvantages you in any way. I could add a fifth, but I’m not too sure about the overall quality of my application.
@wontonandrice Nope, we look at quality not quantity! As long as there are at least four.
@heyimpeter when are decisions released?
@heyimpeter Thanks for answering!
Just submitted, fingers crossed.
@jazhope321 decisions will be released by early may.
@heyimpeter thank you!!
@heyimpeter How lovely of you to jump in and demystify the process for all these wonderful, very stressed young people!
As a parent, I have to say, I so appreciate the experience my daughter is getting by applying to all these selective summer programs. She is learning so much. The “be creative” instruction for the Adroit personal statement in particular pushed her to produce an absolutely hilarious piece. You all should enjoy the process and even relish the rejections if they come. As young writers, you have many more rejections ahead of you. It’s the life.
Ah… I read over my writer’s statement and realized what I could’ve written instead! I had so many creative prompts but eschewed all of them (including one about smiley emojis), but oh well.
@heyimpeter still expecting to release decisions in Mid May?
