how hard would this class be i dont know ANYTHING about computer programming? i am pretty intelligent when it comes to computers themselves, ( i can build and fix computers, etc), but i dont know crap about programs. i want to take this class but i dont know if i should.

just go through a book like java for dummies and you should be fine.

In my school APCS(A) was meant for students with no prior knowledge of programming, so it was pretty easy the first semester where it was focused on syntax and Java reserved words. 2nd semester we went over concepts and that was when it got harder.

If you're only learning it just to AP exam, with a lot of reading on your part you should be fine without the course. That said, it would still be hard considering that it is not easy to understand concepts.

If you actually want to learn how to program, you definitely do not want to skim on taking the class itself. There are lots of times when your program wouldn't compile and having someone to help you figure out the error messages beats staring at the computer screen for three hours.

Anyway just to let you know knowing how to build/ fix computers will not help you the slightest on the AP exam. The closest thing our class came to covering hardware was brushing over how RAM works.

its pretty easy but i HATED the class so much

yeah i thought it would be easy because i know how to build computers, but it's completely irrelevant

Get a "Learn how to Program in Java in 24 hours" book, and you'll be fine. It's when you do the AB test you'll need a REAL textbook.

brightred's right. we have this guy in our school who's a genius with computers themselves but got 8 out of 40 questions right on a practice test we took in class 2 days before the real exam.
but take it. i absolutely loved the class, the people, everything.

I am in the SAME EXACT situation as you except I took the class this year. Well my teacher was easy and amazingly 1st quarter i got an A, 2nd quarter got an A+ and on the final exam got an A+ so I got an A+ for the class! Yea I would actually recommned, Java Script for Dummies it helped me, but I still dont know much programming lol.

This test is very easy. Do not read anything about Javascript. Read any intro to Java book that looks good and read a review book as it comes closer to the exam. There is a case study that you need to be fairly familiar with, since an FRQ and a few MC questions will be based on this, but any review book should cover you. I took the A class with a teacher who knew nothing about CS, and I self-studied the AB curriculum for a week, and ended up with a 4 on the exam. Do it, it's worth it.
