Advantage applying to Fu as Female?

Don't get me wrong, I am genuinely interested in Engineering. I'm just curious to know if there is a certain boost in the admissions process if a female applies to Fu.

There's a "certain boost" in the "admissions process" when a "female" applies to any school.

kwu: Not so, or at least not for most schools(engineering schools being the exception). Females make up more applicants than males(slightly) for most schools(note that I'm not talking about Columbia specifically), so males are actually at an advantage when applying to schools.

My guess, however, is that being a female helps when applying to the engineering school.

Ah, okay, I see. kwu, I know that applying to LACs as a female is definitely a disadvantage, if slight, because males are less likely to apply there.

I think just in general, at competitive (and other) universities, female applicants are slightly overrepresented-- not just at LACs.

if you're attractive, you'll definitely be much appreciated. the half dozen or so girls in SEAS in my class year who were actually hot practically got carried around from class to class.

in the application process, though, i'm not sure it's that big a deal.

There definitely is. It's less competitive as a female in engineering -- there are less applications from girls, and those girls who apply on average have lower numbers. However, you still have to be qualified; it just takes less of the "crapshoot" element out.

"Actually hot" in SEAS means they'd be 6's at USC or ASU.

Oh yeah. I'm definitely a hot piece of a**. I kid.

I'd say I'm pretty qualified, but yes, its reassuring to know that it won't be AS crapshoot-like applying under engineering as a female.

Yes DEFS better chances I'd say.

Last year two people applied to SEAS in my area, one male one female. The male was probably more qualified in terms of test scores and stuff, but the female got accepted.

Of course, there may be other factors as well.
