Hey everyone, so let me start off by saying I'm a complete newbie on this subject. I'm a freshman as of now and am an Advertising/Public Relations major hoping to have multiple minors. I just took the introductory Ad and PR class at my school, which are required for applying to the major. Right now I am looking into internships. I would really like to get one for this summer, but I'm not sure if its too late or not. I didn't think I was qualified yet to get an internship seeing as how I have only taken introductory courses but I hear of other students like me who have gotten one and my PR teacher says that I can start now.

My question is how do I start? I have a resume typed up from a previous occasion when I met with a counselor. What are some things I should list on there that would be good?

What other things do I need when applying for internships?

Do I just send an email to whatever firm is looking for internships and attach the resume?

In other words, what are the steps to take for a beginner to try and get an internship?

Do you have a career center at your school? they will help you with your latter questions (re: resumes, steps etc)

as far as internships for this summer, now is the time to look…many have been filled and many are for upperclassman, but if you look local to your hometown (or where you will be this summer), there will prob be unpaid ones available (for credit, which you have to pay for) or without…

Go see Career Services at your school. They’ll be able to help you a lot better than we can. They’ll be able to help you with your resume and your cover letter and with how to spin your coursework/work experience to make it sound like you’re qualified for an internship.

While some internships for the summer may already be filled, a lot of them probably haven’t been. For last summer, I started applying in mid-March, continued applying through the beginning of May, and got a couple of good offers, so it really isn’t too late.
