I am looking into the career of healthcare administration/management, and I need some advice while I am going through the process right now. I am a senior in high school, and am planning on majoring in biology. Most of my schools don’t have a healthcare administration major, but since I am planning on going into a graduate program for healthcare administration then I want to know if I can major in biology or health sciences and still get into a program. I have looked at many graduate programs but they don’t really say much about what you should major in for undergraduate. If anyone who has been through this process could help that would be great! Again I am only a senior in high school so I don’t know a ton but I would like to have an idea of what to do when I go to college in the fall. Thanks!
Kind of a late response, but anyway -
I work at a medical software company, and from what I can tell, the job of healthcare administration is highly finance-related. After browsing through the requirements for several graduate programs in healthcare administration, it looks like it doesn’t matter what your major is, as long as you’ve had a few basic statistics and finance classes.
At work I’ve noticed that many of the healthcare administrators we deal with are former nurses.
