So, I never took a calc class. I took precalc my junior year, and I took AP stats my senior year. I know, I was stupid for not taking Calc AB my sr year, but I just felt like I wouldn't do so hot.. ugh I regret it.

Anyways, I barely remember anything from Precalc, however, it is recommended that I start off with Math_2A freshman year; but will I struggle?

Do you guys advise me to take a prep math class or introductory to calc class in the summer, instead of taking a GE?

I would recommend you take it during the school year unless YOU MUST take it during the summer. During the school year, you have 11 weeks to learn the material whereas in the summer you only get 6 weeks. I took math 2a during the school year and math2b during summer and you really have to be on top of your game if you want to do well.

I meant as in taking a calc I class at a local community college in the summer, in order to prepare for math 2a during the school year?

Umm…In my opinion Pre-calculus is way different from calculus. Its only like the first chapter or two, in a calculus book that talks about asymptotes, limits, and abling to expand, factor, etc. Then after that, its the good stuff of calculus. Its pretty easy, if you did very well in pre-calculus. Just memorize a few more trig functions, and few logs rules maybe tricky. But thats all AB stuff. Hope this helps.

Calculus is cake (well at least for me). I did the same thing as you plan to do. Took it over the summer after my senior year. Trust me calculus is nothing like pre-cal lol. This is coming from a student who got a B- in pre-cal. I did crappy in pre-cal and got an A in calculus. I also did AP stats just like you too lol. Thought it was a waste but I don’t regret it. I finished my calculus in 8 weeks and while AP students had to study it all year + had risk of not passing AP exam. Plus the credits I got were for grade and credit while AP credits are just college credit that doesn’t count towards GPA. If you are science/engineering major than yea take it if you can handle it. But if you are not then just relax and take it when you start the fall.

I’m a BIO major, and its either recommended or required that I take math 2A for the fall. And I’m guessing I’m gonna need to take a placement exam in order to enroll in the class, which I’m probably going to do poorly on without much prep in the summer.

Meh, I’m leaning towards taking a calc class in the summer. Thanks for the help guys!

You are a bio major that is great then lol. At least statistics didn’t go to a waste. You don’t have to worry about going early on the math course either. Just two quarters =/. I would concentrate on chemistry / biology. Those are heavy the first two years.

i took precal in junior year of hs and didn’t even have math in senior year. i took the placement that summer and i got borderline for pre-cal/2A (i could choose which to do, and i enrolled in 2A because precal doesnt count towards GEs, but i ended up dropping it because of the teacher). i didn’t study at all, i just tried out those sample problems they gave on the testing site, so you’ll be fine
