My S is in his first year of college, majoring in engineering. He needs to get 3 credits this summer to keep on track to graduate in 4 years. His advisor said he would sign off on virtually any summer program (online, community college, etc) in the humanities (just no math or science courses).
The complication is that my son received a 4 week internship for this summer, but doesn’t know the dates of it yet.
So, we’re looking for very flexible summer programs that offer 3 credit hour humanities courses that he could complete before or after his internship. We’ve starting looking at Georgia Perimeter College (we live in Atlanta), and University of Phoenix. But if its online, he could take a class offered by virtually any accredited US university right? Since we’re new to the world of online education, any suggestions, etc, would be most appreciated.
I would avoid Phoenix in favor of a community college with online classes. As far as I know, University of Phoenix is generally not transferable to regular colleges. If you google it, people say really bad things about it too, and it’s know for putting people in debt. You can’t go wrong with community colleges on the other hand, which are much cheaper and better respected. Is that what Georgia Perimeter College is? If he’s currently at a state school, any community college class should say in the description whether it’s transferable to his school or not.
Thanks for advice on UPhoenix – I did not know anything about them other than their commercials. You apparently can’t find out the financial cost of attendance from their website – you have to talk with a “counselor”.
GPC awards both associate and bachelor degrees, so I believe its a 4-year college in the UGeorgia system.
