I will be heading to a four year university in the fall. However, I plan on transferring after my first year. I would like to have at least thirty credits so that my high school grades will not be taken into account. However, I DO NOT want to swamp myself with work. I would like to maintain a decent GPA and focus on my classes as well as extracurriculars.

a) Is it too late to enroll in summer classes at a community college?
b) Honestly, what is a feasible amount of credits to obtain over summer? Is fourteen a bit extreme? Please be honest. I don't want to take math courses, because I feel like they will be rushed and I actually WANT to learn.
i. I would like to take to take a course in Spanish. I have been taking Spanish since elementary school and I am not that bad at it.
ii. I would like to take a course in Public Speaking.

I am a Journalism major, so are there any other classes that you all can recommend. And are there any community colleges in Georgia, preferably Atlanta, that you all can recommend?

Thanks in advance! =)

im not familiar with the east coast but ill try to help.
and usually with 30 units, colleges WILL look at your HS grades. in order for them to NOT i believe its usually 45+ units. but all schools are different so i could be wrong. just make sure you call to find out.

30 units in 1 year is totally manageable, you will not be swamped with work as long as you dont procrastinate haha. key to success is successfully managing your time.

a. you have to contact your local CC for that kind of information. for my CC it is NOT too late.
b. again, depending on the school and how long summer is, 14 is a bit extreme. my CC’s summer intersession is only 8 weeks. and i usually only take 1, 4 Unit class. ive seen ppl do 2 classes easily as well. 14 units is a lot. so check with your CC on what is required to take taht many and how long summer intersession is.

i. if youve already been speaking spanish for that long, take it. EASY A.
II. public speaking is an awesome course, no fear. take it!

Thank you so much!

I’m a bit “slow” when it comes to college terms. Is a unit the equivalent of a credit?

^ yeah 1 unit = 1 credit altough technically you could take a 4 unit class and not get any credit at your 4 year university if the class does not transfer.

it shouldn’t be too late for summer, my local cc’s don’t even open up classes till may/june. I would say 14 is a lot… 12 units for a regular semester is considered full time, if you take 14 in the summer you will have long blocks of class and just a lot of work in a short amount of time. Most people just take 1 or 2 classes to get GE’s out of the way or whatnot.

Ok, awesome! I guess I’ll take two classes.

gluck :D

i hope you can manage to grab two lol

William, I currently live in Atlanta and there is a school called georgia state in the heart of atlanta. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a cc because you can earn a four year degree, however I think pretty much anyone can get in as long as you have at least a 980 sat… Anyway, I know there are some other schools that you should check into like perimeter… but that’s not in the city. Perimeter is a junior college.
