Advice for Returning College Student

Hey guys. I am returning to college after many years of occasionally taking classes at a junior college and working a lot. Not having a clear direction for many years, I finally found a field I would like to go into, which is neuroscience.

I am planning on dual majoring in both philosophy and neuroscience, but I really don’t know much about how to go about choosing the best college, as so many of them look good, and some look quite awful.

I’ve lived in California most of my life but have recently moved to Kansas for a couple years. I’m willing to relocate somewhere else, but I’d also like the college to be somewhere that is somewhat affordable to live (one of those places not being California).

My GPA will likely be around 3.1 to 3.4/3.5 or so. I have had almost straight A’s the past two semesters and will continue to have almost all A’s, but not taking classes seriously in the past will affect my GPA, sadly.

Anyways, any advice you might have would be much appreciated!

Edit: are Kansas State or University of Kansas good schools for a philosophy and neuroscience dual major if i’m planning on going to grad school?

I would think the top priority for a mature student would be affordability and location where you expect to settle. What can you afford and where are you considered in-state?

Kansas State does not have a neuroscience program but does have a good philosophy dept and some behavioral neuroscience research. KU (Kansas) does have a BS in Behavioral Neuroscience through the psychology department. You could probably dual major in that and philosophy there. Call the dept and check it out. My son goes to Kansas State and has been very happy with the education he is getting there. KU is also a good school.
