So I am planning on taking chemistry II at my local community college because I want to take orchestra and the ap Teacher at my school is extremely intelligent, but a horrible teacher.

Who has taken cc courses during the school year? Any tips or advice for me? Was it a work overload combined with regular schoolwork?

I took some courses at a 4 year university but I think this will be helpful anyways.

You have to think about how difficult your high school coursework is. For me, I’ve never had to spend more than 1-2 hours studing and doing homework and I’ve maintained valedictorian status and a 4.9 GPA - so if you’re not challenged by your high school coursework then go ahead and take some of the college courses.

The class I took at the university was actually moderately challenging (two 100-level courses)… On top of my high school work I don’t think it would have been too much.

This isn’t really related to your question but personally I don’t recommend taking it at a community college - I’m sure you’re quite intelligent since you’re considering taking college classes during your high school career so I’ll say you’ll probably be better off taking it at a local university if possible. I think its much more impressive (when you apply to a college) if you’re able to earn an A in a university course since it shows you’re prepared for college - however community college grading standards tend to be quite low especially if you go to a magnet/selective admissions high school.
