Hey. I'm going to be a second year at a top 50 school. My grades are pretty good being a 3.7+ but I don't like my situation at my current school. To say the least I am pretty miserable. I am aware that I might just be having a rough transition, but I am currently exploring the option of transferring to a school that I feel would be a better fit. If you were in my shoes and assuming that my upward trend of grades continues at my current school, would you transfer risking the gpa and potential letdown at the new school or play it safe at the current school to get into a good law school later?

Why are you miserable? Perhaps it's a question of not having found your social niche yet where you are. If so, changing schools won't solve the problem. You'd still have to find a niche at your new school.

I transferred after my sophomore year. It worked out well for me in the long run, but in many ways the experience was disruptive.

It's not solely about not finding my social niche, but just unhappiness about how my school is in my designated major. It doesn't help when I want to get hands on experience working at places such as the ACLU or what not, and that they are not in the area. Also, there is no professor or person who specializes in the field that I wish to pursue studying to become a civil rights lawyer or public defender. So that's a bit why of I wish to transfer.
