Hi. I will be a freshman entering college this fall. I intend to major in Biology and declare myself as a premed student. I have registered to take Intro to Bio, Bio Lab, Intro to Chem, Calculus, and Psychology. This all add up to be 15 hours of credit. Is this too much for my first semester of first year? Should I drop Bio Lab and replace it with Economics? I have been told that taking a variety of classes is beneficial. However, I would love to read opinions of others. Thanks.

Will the Chem claas have a lab? Even if it doesn't this still sounds like a lot. Taking something outside of the science field might be a good change of pace for you during the week. That's just my opinion.

Intro to chemistry does not include lab.

It's nice to be needed.

those are alot of science classes. Psychology can be pretty intense as can chem classes. You might want to throw in a social science or something more writing based so your entire semester isnt just pure memorization.

get contacts, suck in ur gut

but for real though, ur schedule is definitely manageable. depends how focused you are. you're going to need physics and a full year of orgo on top of that, so it's all about planning. is intro chem 2 sem or 1?

At first I thought your schedule looked easy, but then I saw chem. I'd say drop that, take physics. Why? Chem and Bio are both memorizing classes. Physics is just logic. You can get by with so little if you are a good thinker and calc comes easy to you. As for psy, take a class that you want to take.
Also i dont mean dont study for physics, just that, well i think you get what i tried to say.

im thinkin about pre-med , but i would recomend dropping bio and just doing chem first semester (chem is recomended at most schools before Bio)

im doin calc 1, chem with lab, history and a writing class- sure, sophmore and junior year youll have to speed up alittle bit, but you might as well start strong and give yourself a manageable first semester...after all, tons of pre-meds decide to pursue somthing else after first semester, and a super challenging load is sometimes the reason...what im plannin on at the advice of a cousin who succesfully got into med school

first year : calc, chem, english requirement
second year: bio, physics, orgo if possible, not required ...if completed, consider taking mcat in august
third year: orgo, if it hasnt been done before ... and take your MCAT june of jr. year / apply to med schools

15 credits is a normal course load. However, taking both bio and chem simultaneously may not be a good idea if you're pre-med. I suggest taking chemistry in the spring and taking another class (perhaps an english class or elective since you already have a math, science, and social science?) in its place.

Or, expanding on what stonecold23 said, swap bio (w/lab) for chem and chem lab and take bio in the spring.
