advice on colleges?

Nirmala, which town r u exactly from?

Musabbir, you are absolutely right. (and this is why I am applying mostly to LAC, which btw, took me some time to understand what means)

Violina, I am from Stara Zagora.
There is a foreign language school in Russe, right? Are you from there? Say something about yourself! Let's have some Bulgarian presence here cos now I feel as if the only international students applying to US colleges are from Nepal- which, actually, wouldn't be bad at all!...

hey hey....what do u mean by that nirmala?...Nepalese students are second to none...let me assure u that...

Nirmala, there is a foreign language school in Rousse indeed as well as an english language school but I'm from a high school with German as first language so I was primarily interested in applying to german universities. Eventually I decided to try in the US but that was a couple of months ago so I'm currently struggling with exams, applications, I haven't even chosen colleges yet (although I have some idea :) Btw, are many students in Stara Zagora applying to US universities/colleges, because I came to find out that in Rousse we are quite many, not to mention Sofia, where there's an American college or something...

violina, you will still apply to german unis, right? there are some great ones, and all of my friends who went there (about 10) are very pleased with their schools and with the environment and all..
about us colleges- there is so much work, you'll have some hard time, but if I can help you with some info or advices, just ask! (and not just I, but all the people here :) )
how many students from stara zagora apply to us? hmmmm. well, i have no idea about the other schools, but as mine is a foreign lang school, almost 50 students a year send applications. and in sofia the number is perhaps 250-300. quite a lot it turns out! and most are very capable candidates, for example, 90% from my class have a GPA of 4...
so again, if you have questions, i hope i will be able to help!

OMG! I didn't realise there are so many... from my school I'm the only one applying :)

Ot kude si v Bulgaria?

"90% from my class have a GPA of 4...":eek:

r u kidding me!!!!!

Hey I am from Bulgaria too ;) nice to meet you
Public Speaking Contest- national level and Debates Club?? I haven`t heard of the existence of such things here.
Nirmala, I also think that your activities are outstanding especially for a Bulgarian:)

Well,I guess,this is unweightd GPA.......but seriously,90% of them with 4..???!!!?!?!?!?!?!?

yeah...what kind of class is that???

So I didn't read all of these posts, only the original one, but have you considered schools like Mount Holyoke or Middlebury that don't require SAT scores? Especially Mount Holyoke would be a good school for you to to apply to, as they are extremely generous with money for international students. (That is, if you are female, which your name makes me believe you are).

tons of females apply there...virtually every girl from my country is applying there at least

if you are a girl who happens to like other young girls mt holyoke is de place, otherwise look elsewhere.

from your stats i'd say you should apply to more reaches like amherst, williams and dartmouth. you have too many safeties, 2-3 safeties should be enough.

hey.
i thought this thread was dead.. so nice to see shail619 and issacnewton again!
About my class' GPA, yes, in a school with 1300 students, we have always been the class with the highest record, but trust me, this is not always fun (you can feel like a complete loser sometimes). i'm talking about unweighted GPA, yes, I am still not very sure how is weighted GPA calculated....

BGjeez, i am from Stara Zagora.

surfin_bird, Debates Club in English existed in my school only while an American teacher was here (throgh some Fulbright programme). But this Public Speaking Contest is available to anyone who is in high school or is a first-year student in University. However, I think that your high school has to participate... but you can always propose this, right? Now I can't find any mails or tel. numbers, but tomorrow I'll post them here.

ooooooooh. didn't see page 3!!
thanx a lot for those advices.... now i have 20 colleges to apply to!! :P and it is 14 Dec!!! how are you guys doing with your application process? Is it the same nightmare like(as?) here?

^..........ya.....now these NIGHTMARES r haunting in day time too...hehe..

that's the beauty of nightmares these days....they work overtime and without pay rise!!!!!!!!!lol...

"90% from my class have a GPA of 4..."

yeah, that's because the Romain Rolland Foreign Language school has a grade inflation and it's really easy to get a 6 (=A) on most of ur exams. But I guess that's the situation with most of the HS's in BG, except for her majesty ACS...
