Advice on CR

I got a 2120 on the October 2008 ACT:

660 CR (ouch.)
750 M (stupid mistakes on math)
710 W (i had the experimental writing section on mine, so i lost focus after having 70 writing MC in a row....)

My ACT is a 35 (36 E, 36 M, 34 R, 34 S)... i just don't get why i can't do that well on the SAT

I know vocab hurt me on this SAT, but I got the Sparknotes 1000 SAT words (one my friend used, and after he learned all these, he's never missed a single vocab since).. so vocab should improve b/c of this

as far as the actual reading goes, when I take the actual test, I start to really second guess myself and either switch the answer or heavily debate it with myself for a short bit, causing my timing to start to crunch on me... when I'm at home, i don't do that as much (I got a 2260 on a practice test the night before [730 R, 800 M, 750 W], and i had time left after each section... i don't know why my actual grade is 130 points lower)

i would like a 2200 at least on my SAT (for national merit purposes so that i can get finalist).. also so that it is somewhat comparable to my ACT score.. any advice you guys can give me for CR so that I can score higher?

that score will be just fine for national merit....as long as you get over 2000 youre fine

so colleges won't really care about my SAT since my ACT is already high?

you truly are an ACT person. Don't sweat it. Your ACT scores demonstrate that you are a intelligent person, and above a 2000 looks like you are a competent "reasoner."

Also I think you're fine for NMS.

Also a lot about the SAT is psychological. I mean, this was a convo between me and one of my friends:
"Okay, so let's say you got a 2290."
"Eh...I could have done better."
"Okay, then you retook and got a 2300."
"WOW I wish I could get such a good score..."
"It's only a 10 point difference."
"...oh wow..."

basically trying to say that a 710 on each section (avging out here) out of 800 sounds a lot better than a 2120.

However, since you should be able to up that CR score quite a bit with vocab, maybe you might want to take a shot at it. But with anything better to do, like an essay competition or piano recital or w/e, you might want to focus on that with your super ACT scores helping you out on the standardized testing end.

Congrats!

OK, I won't stress about it too much. I'm already signed up for the Nov. SAT (signed up before I took this past one), but that will be my last one to take. I'll make sure I don't make any stupid mistakes on math (780-800 is what I'm after on that).. i'll make sure to get that vocab down on reading (as long as I break 700 on CR, i'll be happy), and on writing i'll just practice that a lot and recognize patterns (that's what i did with the ACT english, and i got that from a 30 to a 36 pretty quickly)

i know i'll improve, it's just how much i want to improve (80+ improvement would be nice).. but i won't stress it if i don't go up as much as i'd like, since my ACT is high.. and i should get NM finalist anyway (i've matched my PSAT and have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and whatnot.. so hopefully i'll get that)

i just have to loosen up

thanks for the posts
