Advice on transferring from UMass to BU? (Pre-Med)

Hello this is might be a little long, but I think it’d be helpful for a lot. I’ve searched a lot on College Confidential and other forum sites for help on this, but have had little to no luck.
If anyone has any knowledge or experience transferring to BU as a Human Physiology or Neuroscience Major or transferring from a state school to private school as a Pre-Med in general, you’d be very helpful in this matter.

Stats:
High School -
1480 SAT,
Ranked 14th, 3.8 unweighted 4.2 weighted 9 AP classes
ECs: Captain/President of Science Olympiad and Academic Decathlon (some medals nothing to write home about)
4 year 3 sport athlete (nothing great no medals, just varsity running sick right)
Volunteered in a Nursing Home (50 hours)
Volunteered in a library (30 hours)

Freshmen Year-
3.96 GPA with difficult classes (Honors Chem, Bio, Physics, Calc)
On E-Board of a club (not medical)
Volunteered in the ED of a hospital - 10 hours
Volunteered at a soup kitchen - 10 hours
Research in an entomology lab (No publication but great recommendation letter)

Summer 2020-
Plan on getting EMT certification
Volunteering for the Crisis Text Line (Likely 50 hours)
Maybe a job in a Nursing Home (not likely as I have elderly in my house and don’t want to put them at risk, but this is basically the only job/clinical opportunity I could find)

Planned Fall 2021-
Very difficult classes (Orgo, Upper level Psych, upper level Bio, Nutrition Honors)
Still on E Board of club
Hopefully part of UMass EMS
Hopefully a tutor
Hopefully in a Research Lab
Will continue the Crisis Text Line volunteering as it is remote

I plan on applying after the Fall 2021 semester for the best chance of getting in.
I enjoy my time at UMass, mainly because I’ve made great friends, I enjoy alcohol/dancing, and I’m the type to make the best of it. However, I found myself becoming more and more bored with the repeated routine as there really isn’t much to do around campus (after going to 10 parties you realize they’re all kinda the same) and the lack of opportunities (UMass does have plenty but just can’t compare to a major city like Boston). I am certain on going to Medical School and am worried that coming out of UMass I might not have enough pull to get into a great med school, though I’ve seen they send kids to top schools every year. Mostly, it’s just that I’m scared of feeling unfulfilled and bored until I’m 22.

My question is if I apply as a transfer to BU Sargent College what do you think my chances are of getting in? Also, do you think it would seriously negatively impact my chances of getting into medical school? I have no problem with starting over socially as I’ve had many friends move away and I’ve had to move a few times.

Again, I know this is very long, thank you for taking the time to read through this and I appreciate any response.

Thanks

“do you think it would seriously negatively impact my chances of getting into medical school”

I think that it is hard to say. However, from the perspective of being a strong candidate for medical school to me it looks like you are doing very well where you are right now.

Expect your fall classes to be challenging.

Thanks for the reply, challenging oh they will be

This coming academic year Boston will not be the Boston that appeals so much to students.

BU’s pre-med program is notoriously difficult and weeds people out. Additionally, the overall vibes of the people at UMass/BU are really really different, so if you’re happy with the people and friends you made at UMass, it might not be worth the risk. BU parties are like UMass parties except smaller/harder to get into (which I guess is good or bad based on personal preference). I will say, BU students are competitive with each other because the curriculum forces them to be, especially in pre med classes. The school constantly gets rated as having the hardest finals/worst grade deflation in the country, and stats showed that something like 73% of students reported that academics negatively affected your mental health. I’m sure you’re very smart though, so if you think your GPA will survive the transfer, it might be worth it? Don’t underestimate the value of a UMass degree tho.
