If I am sending in the "essay" as a collection of photos, etc., is it completely necessary to actually mail it in? Would it be at all acceptable to e-mail it as an attachment, or send the URL, etc.?

Also, would completing this essay in a different medium put me at any disadvantage to the thousands of others who are writing essays? Although, I am sending in the common app essay as well as the other JHU essay.

One last question - would it ever be acceptable on any part of any college application to note that I maintain a personal online portfolio of my artwork (even though I will not necessarily be majoring in art)?

Thank you for your time :)

iluminaire - first, patience. There is no need to bump your post just thirty minutes after posting. I will respond to all questions posed in due time.

as far as your questions:

(1) We do not accept application materials sent through e-mail. If you are sending a collection of photos as your essay, your should burn them to a disc and mail it to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Include your full name, birth date, and high school - as well as notation that the disc is a response to essay question #1.

(2) We wouldn't not make the option of sending the "essay" in a different medium if it put applicants at a disadvantage.

(3) You may share the link the portfolio of your artwork in the additional section of your application, but there is no guarantee such supplemental information will be reviewed.
