Alright, I know that I can either use JHU's application or the common app. I was curious as to which one they would prefer or what other people used. If I use the common app, do I still have to write the two essays on the JHU application?

i used the hopkins application...
Yes, you still need to write the two essays on the hopkins app even if you're using the common application.
make your essays unique and enjoyable :D

I used common app because every college except 2 I was applying to were using common app.. but now that i got deferred I'm trying to fit in 4 more colleges all due Jan and Feb...... =P

Is it bad if I send three essays to JHU? I don't want them to be redundant and bore the reader. Also, how many words are you guys typing into each of your essays?

honestly, now that I think about it, I WISH I used the common app for JHU because a.) I wouldnt have had to fill out an extra f-er and b.) I think sending three essays could be to your benefit. Gives them a better idea of who you are. No? And if not, they could always ignore the essay that comes with the common app. right? Blah.

I'm also using JHU online application. Just what Spikedsoymilk said, I want to turn in an additional essay so that they can get to know me better.
Do you think it would be okay if I sent another essay of my own?
(I guess this would be the same question that hapidjus asked.) :)

I think so.. It would give you the same advantage as the people who applied common app. In fact my common app essay is much better than the ones I wrote for JHU

I know~! It was so frustrating for me at first to write for JHU essays.
dxmichelle: are you applying for RD, too? :)

i wonder if they'll get p i s s e d if I sent in another essay.

lol gilofmine, michelle already got into jhu ED ~_*

I'm sorry to sound so ignorant, but i'm a little confused...so if I use the JHU application and answer the two essay questions, how I give them my common app essay also? Do I send in both the common app and JHU applications?

well, the 2 JHU essays are on the supplement so no matter what you use, they will get those two essays. You only get to send in the extra essay if you use common app. for JHU rather than their app.

In sum, send in the common app and the mandatory supplement.

I want to ask you again for the last time about sending the additional essay.
(Sorry if I'm making you annoyed.)
I'm thinking of sending the additional essay by mail, along with all the other supplement documents. I'm using the JHU app, by the way.
Do you think this will be okay? I'm a bit worried that they might not consider the essay if I sent it that way.

uhm. i dont think you're supposed to send an extra essay with the normal JHU app. But it's yours, not mine.

and no, youre not annoying me. ^_^

Wow~ Thanks for your quick reply. (^_^)
Well, I guess I should consider using the common appl.
Um.. I have one more question.. ^^;
I'll be using the common appl. for two schools.
Once I submit the common appl for one of them, can I make changes to the appl after that, for sending it to the other school? (Because I would like to send a different essay for the other one.)

oooh. good question. I dont think so though...that's why they call it the "common app" so nothing has to be changed.

No, you can change your application for the other school.. actually you have like several copies of the common app in the web site and you send each copy to each of your colleges, so after you submit for one of them you can change basically anything you want for another college! But don't forget to also submit the suplements, I think teachers like common apps better because they can just write one rec and use for all the colleges =) Yeah, I got in to JHU, deferred for BME...

Actually even if you only want to submit 2 essays is okay to use the common app because my friend just copy pasted her $10 essay on the common app... But then I spent 1 month on my common app essay (coz i'm going to use for all the colleges) and only 1 week for each of the JHU essays...

JHU does not state a specific word limit for the essays..how long did most of you make it??

I guess if you can print them out you can send them. But I'm not sure if you can change the essay if you submit your common app. electronically?
