Advice to get my gpa up?

I am halfway through freshman year of high school and it hasn’t been so great. My gpa so far is about a 2.9 at the halfway point and I take all cp1 and only one honors class. Am I screwed? I feel like I am a disgrace on my family because all of my cousins and my parents went to ivy league schools and it feels like I am going to be a stain on my family name. I turn in all my homework and do well on class work but on tests I just can’t seem to grasp and combine all the knowledge. Any tips on how I can study better what I can do to improve my gpa? Thanks

I mean you may not get into an IVY but your state school will accept you hopefully. There you can restart and do well. Don’t worry you’ll still be successful…

I have advice.

You can bring up your GPA over the summer with accredited online courses.

A lot of times an A in an AP course will be worth a 5.0.

So I suggest mabey that you take some courses over the summer (preferrably AP because they can really change your GPA at this point).

AP courses dont always mean super difficult. I heard some of the esiest ones are AP human geography (usually taken in 9th grade) and AP phycology.

If you’re really motivated, you could take these over the summer, but dont let it negativly affect you.

I have never heard of summer online courses before at my school how do they usually work? Should I ask my guidance counselor?

Yes

Maybe you should also look into getting a tutor for your most difficult classes, because they’re always super helpful.

It pains me to hear that you’re feeling that way… I GUARANTEE you won’t be a stain on your family name… Nobody thinks that way. I agree with @collegeready33 , if your financial situation is appropriate, a tutor can help you get back to your A-game.

Lastly, Ivies aren’t for everyone. I went into freshman year thinking I’d do everything to go to HYPSM+, but now I think that they’re the least favorite schools I’ll never get into :p. Seriously, most schools in the US are top-notch, and if you get your GPA up to at least 3.3-ish, you won’t go wrong.

Yes, I am going to adjust my study habits and mabye get a tutor, although I often do stay for help after school. For the most part up to 8th grade I was a straight A student but I guess it just goes to show how difficult high school can get if you are unprepared.

You might also try to determine if it is certain classes you have trouble in or all. From what you mentioned, you seem to understand the homework, but have difficulty with test taking. Is this true in all subjects? Do you run out of time? If you can narrow in on the problem, it may be easier to help with a solution. Even talking to your parents may help. They could help you work through a solution. Or a teacher if it’s one or two specific classes. Some teachers will recommend online test practices. And agree with the above, there are plenty of good schools. Work now on improving what you can and don’t stress about the rest. It will work out.
