How to improve my GPA?

Hi y’all,

My GPA is pretty low, I’m going to be completely honest. Last year I got a 3.77, due to several circumstances where I was living with abusive relatives, my house was almost burned down, and was robbed etc, lots of bad luck…and I couldn’t focus on one class, which really brought me down.

I planned to take 3 AP Classes over the summer (unrealistic, I know) and I’m finishing only one (AP Psychology), because the other two had accreditation problems. I only had a month and like a week to finish all of them, which I know is highly unlikely, I’m thankful I’m even finishing AP Psych. I will be getting an A, which brings my GPA to a 3.86, correct me if I’m wrong!

I calculated my probable GPA for the upcoming school year, which would be a 4.25. There is this academic award at school, and last year, the lowest GPA that got it had a 4.43 GPA. I know this is unlikely, but is there a way for me to get my GPA to be higher than it is? Are there classes outside of school I could possibly take to improve it? Has anyone taken classes at another high school to get their GPA higher? Give me your secrets College Confidential!

My guidance counselor is extremely unhelpful by the way, I plan to see her the day before school starts, and basically will beg her is there anyway for me to improve my GPA in any way possible.

is that GPA your weighted GPA?

And what do you plan to achieve by going to school the day before it starts and begging her if there is “anyway for [you] to improve [your] GPA in any way possible”?

It’s not like a counselor can bump up your GPA, lol. The only advice she can give you is to do well in your classes.

@kawaiiii yeah, that’s my weighted GPA, I didn’t take any weighted classes freshman year though. I got a B+ in this class that I was struggling in, and a C second semester of it. It was my hardest class, and my teacher didn’t let me drop it first semester, just because I was doing well, until 2nd semester rolled around. The abuse definitely played a part in my focus. I usually do well in math classes if I focus hard enough, but by second semester, I was extremely depressed, and couldn’t focus.

Oh I know my counselor can’t bump my GPA! Haha, no I’d probably beg her for ways I could improve it, like maybe a way I could take classes outside of school to get a higher GPA. If only my counselor could bump my GPA XD

can you think of possible ways for me to improve my GPA?

The quickest way would be to take all APs / Honors and get A’s in all of them.

You can also try what you said and take classes over the summer.

A 3.77 is not bad… but take honors and AP classes (that interest you!) and that will help with class rank and weighted GPA. However, if class rank and weighted GPA is not what you are looking for, just study A LOT. Freshmen year I think I had a UW GPA of about 3.75 and weighted (not sure exactly how to calculate, but let’s say a weigthed class grade of 100+ is a 4.3…) I had a WGPA of about 4.0375 and I was CR of 9 (top 5%). This year I want to move my CR closer to 1 and increase my GPA ( I know I could’ve done better) so I plan on studying a lot more. So far I have gotten 100s on both chem quizzes and on an AP gov quiz!
