Not getting good grades now; can I still salvage my gpa?

I'm a freshman in high school in all honors classes. First quarter I got As and Bs and a C or two, I think. This quarter is much the same, although I think I have more B's, but I'm doing terrible in English. I mean HORRIBLE. I really want to go to UF, and I know thats competitive. So what do you think? Any advice, also? Thanks

Hey, I'm also a freshman in all honors and I'm also having a pretty difficult time. I can't really offer any specific help and I'm sure you don't want to here a general, stupid answer such as "study more", lol, good luck!

What's the problem with English? Why don't you talk to the teacher? Maybe he/she can explain what you don't understand and tell you what you can do to bring your grade up.

In general...All Honors and/or APs can be difficult to handle, especially your first year. Could you move down from honors to regular class?

lololololololol u think your grades arent good? lololololololol wow, you're a sad person.

Please disregard the above poster.

Yeah, talk to your teacher and see what your options are. Maybe you can go to tutoring before or after school or drop to a non-honors class. It's your first semester of your freshman year, so you have plenty of time to bring your marks up. Don't stress about it, just make sure you actively work to bring them up.

I'm in the same position... Just add another C and a failing grade in math :( I really want to make top ten percent though.

We should all feel privileged and humbled that this obvious valedictorian has graced us with his presence, sharing with us the sort of intellectual rumination that is the unmistakable mark of genius.

OP: Figure out exactly what it is you're doing wrong in English and work hard on bringing your grade up. Don't worry too much, UF isn't all that selective.

It's especially ironic since it's the same guy who posted this thread:

I'm a freshman with 5 year long honors courses, Algebra II-S (no honors offered) online, 1 online AP year long, and I'll probably be starting Pre-cal-H second semester.
This is how you do it: Learn how to pull all-nighters (For if you have like 7 chapters on notes due the next day, 7 weeks of your AP class, 8 weeks of your Algebra-II class... or any similar situations), read chapters in smaller
parts, and read more for English-I H. (Btw... I had all A's my first semester... with an English grade of 99, and this 9 weeks I was told I'll have a 100 in English, probably 2 B's, and 4-5 A's... one grade is really up in the air)
I came to high school completely unprepared to study, I never had to take notes before...
Take notes during class... take breaks during homework....

I was in the slightly same position. In the middle of freshman year I caught myself with mostly B's. I just buckled down and did well on my finals and last semester. Freshman year came out with all A's and 1 B with a GPA of 4.5, not my best, but still pretty good.
The most important tip i can give is to remember you are still a freshman. You've still got all of High School to go. Just take your time and explore your options at school. Learn to like school, get involved in a club or sport. It sounds really stupid and lame, but if you learn to go to school with a nice attitude, you will do better.

I got all A's and B's freshman year with the exception of a C in honors geometry (final grade ended up as a B i believe though) I am only a sophomore now and my GPA is definatly going up.
It's extremely scary to realize you may not get into the college you want to get into because of mistakes freshman year
but also remember you do have a bit more time.

Work hard, go for help, but also allow yourself some time to relax to calm yourself. I suggest maybe making a list of when you are going to study (what time on what days etc) and try to stick to it.

I know this will sound dumb, but here it goes. Maybe you can even give yourself something when you reach your study goal everyday. Something as little as a star next to the day can do it. Just work towards getting that star!
