I am thinking of applying to GIT for Aeronautical Engineering next fall. But after reading your thread i am getting scared of whether i will be able to get an average GPA of even 2.5 (if i get accepted).

It had been mentioned that 2.75 was the average GPA but wont this GPA affect you in the long run, i.e. when one is applying for engineering in the graduate level and want to get to a good school. At that point wont one have to have a pretty high GPA.

I am not tellin that i dont want to work hard, i usually get a B in physics, chem or maths without studying for the exam in an indian syllabus. But getting a GPA of about 2.75 i feel is pretty low.

^^You dont need to worry, I did similar to you in High School, even Im from India. Im not finding it that tough here. You just need to put in some effort.

My son loves it. He has a social life and a girlfriend he met there, and he hasn't complained about the dorm, the food, or transportation around campus. He gets off campus to shop and eat out with his girlfriend and neither of them has a car (first semester freshmen can't park on campus).

Some of the classwork is harder than he expected, though. He and many of his GT friends breezed through high school and are finding it doesn't come as easy now.

One nice thing GT does is give progress reports at the end of September for all freshman and sophomore level classes. That acts as a wake-up call for those not doing as well as they want, so they can get it in gear in time to make a difference for the semester. According to my son, most of the freshmen he knows are not doing as well as they would like in at least some of their classes. The school seems to offer plenty of opportunities to get help, so I'm hoping they all take advantage of what GT gives them.

Freshmen should be able to park on campus. They told me that I wouldn't be able to get a permit, but I obtained one in the middle of my first semester ('03). Since Tech Square opened up, they haven't been able to sell out. Although things may have changed over the past few years, it would be worthwhile to visit the website and apply for a permit.

I'm not sure that my son has any desire to have a car on campus at this point. The permit cost is high ($545) and he is able to get where he needs to go without a car. We live over 800 miles away, so having a car isn't going to help him come home for weekends. Once he starts co-op next summer it may be a different story.

Also You can do park and ride from most of suburban Atlanta. they have good public transportation system. Or airport to school is about 25min by subway.
