LOTS of Koreans Internationals are applying to U.S colleges, intending to earn a degree there and come back to Korea, and here's my advice.

DO NOT GO FOR SCHOOLS BASED ON RANKINGS! (I'm talking about the non-ivy schools (i.e. not including HYPSM, Columbia etc)
Universities like Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown and Tufts are above the rankings to universities like NYU, Boston University etc...

BUT

Do not EVER EVER EVER go to a college like Tufts, or Georgetown... No one would have heard of it, whereas schools like NYU, Boston U are famous and will open up connections in Korea (do you know how many rich Koreans go to these schools!?). This is from my cousin's friend who graduated from Tufts, and is having a hard time finding a decent paying job, whereas my cousin, an NYU graduate, is rising in the ranks of MacKenzie Firm (those who know will know how much of a big deal this is) after degree in Econ at NYU CAS. My cousin says that so many influential people have graduated from NYU (I mentioned BU before because my mother's friend's son shares a similar story as my cousin's) that it's basically tantamount to graduating from, say, Seoul National University or Yonsei University (again, Koreans will know how insane it is to try and get into Seoul Uni...)

Also, unless you want to go to Graduate school, avoid Liberal Arts Colleges, even the top ones ^_^
