Hello, I need some help. My son, a junior in high school, received an e-mail today that he got in the JAX Summer program (Jackson Laboratory). Of course, we are euphoric, but he also applied to TASP and passed for the second phase. The results for TASP will bed disclosed later in April, but he needs to give a return to JAX by Friday. Clearly, it will be his decision, but I need some inputs. Which one will be better in colleges applications? It’s not a sure bet to get in TASP, so… If it was you, what would you do?
If it were me I would put down a deposit for JAX and if an opportunity for TASP became available in April, I would be willing to forgo the deposit. Jackson Labs will be able to easily replace your son with another student from their waitlist in April, it is not the same as notifying them in June. I certainly would not pass up JAX for something that is not a sure bet. Both are amazing opportunities and highly selective. Congrats!
