Misc.
I attended the Cornell Summer College and I'm pretty sure I got an A- and a rec letter from the professor.

Recs/Essays
Recs should be outstanding
Essays should be very good, maybe excellent. I am considering talking about my mission trips and our need to extend help to other nations and people.

I would love to hear what you guys have to say about my application and I am open to suggestions on ways to improve my application.

Thanks

I think you would need to take 2-3 SAT IIs even if you are not doing SAT I. SAT IIs are subject tests which the ACT does not encompass.

You’re going to get in, providing those essays are outstanding and you take a few subject tests.

Do I have to take subject tests even though they are not required? Which ones then?

Are you sure they are NOT required? Which college are you planning to apply to?
If you do take them, take your best subjects obviously.

AEM is in CALS. If I do I would take Math 2 and Chem. most likely.

CALS doesn’t require SAT IIs.

As per this (http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/firstyear/Freshman_Admission_Requirements_Grid.pdf</a>), Cornell CALS recommends you take a subject test in a science and in a math (any level). So, yes, I would take two subject tests if I were you (and get a 750+). But other than that, I’d say you have an excellent shot at getting in OP.

OK thanks.

Anyone else? Any way to improve my chances?

Your ACT score may be slightly on the lower side but your GPA and work experience is excellent. You are doing the right APs. So you have better than 50% chances. Write good essays, get solid recs, consider applying ED if at all possible. Visit Cornell and attend the info session. Finally, regardless of what CALS/Cornell say, do SAT 2 (Math 2 and either Chem or Bio and try to score 750+). I looked at dozens and dozens of postings from those who got into CALS and a vast majority took SAT and scored well. IMHO This will improve your chances significantly.

PS - I had similar stats, awards, EC, APs etc (better ACT but modest work experience) . . . I did not submit my SAT2 scores in RD (AEM) - not sure what I was thinking - and got waitlisted. Then I submitted by Sat 2 scores in April and I kind of sort of got off the waitlist (was offered GT). Hope it helps. Cornell is a great school and AEM is a great program. Good luck.

Thanks. I’ll start studying for Math 2 and AP Chem should prepare me enough for the test in Oct.
