Hello and thank you for providing me with your valuable inputs.
I am a transfer student that has already been accepted into the Aero program at Cal Poly for Fall 2013. However, I have few questions that need to be answered prior to committing to the program. I am hoping someone that has gone through the process can provide the answers. However, all general inputs are much appreciated. My questions are:

Cal Poly is known for their “learn by doing” philosophy, and I assumed most engineering courses are equipped with a lab. As for Aerospace engineering, what kind of facilities are available to students? Would you say that the labs teach skills that are extremely useful in the industry? If you were an Aero major at Cal Poly, how was your experience with the labs offered?

Do transfer students have to take introductory classes?

How are the Aero professors?

How are the job fairs at Cal Poly? What are some aerospace related companies that attend them?

Is there any information or are there any answers to this thread? I am kind of in the same situation…transfer to SLO for Aerospace. Still have time to SIR at UC’s…so need to make a final decision. Any input would be appreciated!

This reply may be of interest to Patriots4 and SLOHappy regarding the CP Aerospace program. I am a retired aerospace engineer from Lockheed Martin.

Thank you for the reply and the link. My daughter is transferring from another 4 year university that does not have an Aero major into Aero at SLO. She can’t wait to take her Aero classes and realizes that she will probably have to start in some of the freshman ones so that she has the pre-reqs needed for the upper division classes. She’s ok with that. She’s hoping to finish up in 2 years…not sure if that’s possible.

I’m also a transfer for aerospace engineering and am wondering how long it’ll take me to finish. I have all my gen Ed and beginning engineering classes so I’m hoping just 2 years but assuming that it will take 3.

Hey guys, I want to transfer to cal poly for aerospace engineering also (im an incoming freshmen going to attend sbcc) and i was wondering if you guys have any advice for me as to what classes to take so that I look competitive for cal poly because I know its very difficult to get accepted? Thanks so much.

Cal Poly is the international leader in the Cubesat program. Have your daughter contact the Cubesat/PolySat program on campus. They would love to give her a tour. The only “danger” will be if she shows interest they may immediately get her involved with the program. Cal Poly already has had several of their Cubesats in orbit with more on the way. Your daughter should have a great time at Cal Poly
