I’d like to get some more insight (we took the tour) into this program in that my son has been accepted by the dept.
-What are it’s strengths and how could the dept. be improved?
-Is it feasible to complete the major in 4 years?
-Where do graduates tend to end up?
Plus, anything else you think might be helpful.

I would recommend attending Admitted Students Preview Day on April 17th. I went with my son in 2007 and they had breakout sessions by major (ours was Materials Engineering)
that were very informative about the major. There was even a parent/professor Q & A, while the accepted students had a Q & A with the current students in MatE. It was this event that sold my son on CPSLO. And, by the way, he loves his major (now in 2nd year).

Thanks Ralph 4. We will be there.
However, I would like to find an objective assessment of the dept… Goggle searches only yield graduate schools.

For the third time in the past four years, Cal Poly aerospace seniors flew high above the competition at the national Undergraduate Team Aircraft Design competition, sweeping first, second, third, and, this year, even fourth place. Cal Poly also came in second in the Undergraduate Team Engine Design category.

For a list of all the winners of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics design competitions click on the link below then click on “Competition History” on the right side of the screen. Scroll down to see the winners for recent years.

Cal Poly is in good company here (among other engineering powerhouses such as MIT, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Univ. of Texas, Univ. of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USC, Purdue, Embry Riddle, Berkeley, Univ. of Michigan, etc.) and is one of the schools most frequently placing in the top three.
