Since I am an international student most government companies do not accept me for jobs. Agreed that there are big companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin that do accept anyone with status but they would be difficult to get into as they are really well known and I will face stiff competition.

I wanted to know what the prospects are for me in this field or should I change to a more diverse field like Electrical Engineering.

With an EE degree you would probably be working on different things than if you had an AeroE degree.

I think he figured that part out.

At any rate, OP, if you're coming from UIUC, you've already faced stiff competition. You're coming from a place that'll give you some good opportunities. Are there any profs within the department that you think you can talk to? I'm sure they have some very realistic, experience-based opinions as to whether or not there are jobs out there for international students such as yourself. Go find one of them during their office hours and ask them whether or not they think you'll be able to find a job within the aerospace engineering field.

When I interviewed to design nuclear sub turbines, one of the two head engineers was from China. If you're good enough, and if you work hard enough, they'll hire you no matter where you're from, and they'll find a way to get clearance for you... Just gotta figure out what you really want and go for it, full-throttle.
