AF victory over ND

YES! 41:24

How will this affect our bowl game possibilites?

You ought to get a good one.

What is the top unaligned bowl possibility?

Air Force Won!!! YES!! but isnt that also a plane? lol

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Air Force did Navy one better against Notre Dame.

Chad Hall rushed for 142 yards and Shaun Carney threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Falcons to a 41-24 victory on Saturday, the largest win by a service academy over the Irish in 44 years. It also was a school-record ninth loss for the Irish.

The Falcons (8-3) scored three straight touchdowns after Notre Dame (1-9) tied the score at 10 with 2:32 left in the second quarter. The Falcons needed just 83 seconds to regain the lead, driving 66 yards on seven plays and scoring on an 8-yard run by wide receiver Spencer Armstrong.

In the third quarter Carney threw a 7-yard TD pass to wide-open Sean Quintana in the end zone and an 8-yard TD pass to tight end Keith Madsen to make it 31-10. He scored on a 1-yard keeper to close out the scoring in the fourth quarter.

It was the largest margin of victory for Air Force in six wins over the Irish, and the most lopsided loss by Notre Dame to a military academy since a 35-14 defeat by Navy in 1963.

w00t! The Irish must be booting themselves hard now! The alumni must be ready to shoot them! (And UCLA must be crying too for losing!)

Quite the crushing defeat, good job AF!

GO AFA!!! Great results!

congratulations to the air force team and all their fans!
bravo zulu!

Congrats AF!

Great game. As a long time Notre Dame fan until this year it was fun to go to the game and see AF destroy ND.

I've heard that AF doesn't really have much of a chance for a bowl game because we don't bring enough fans, apparently. Bowl game slots are usually way more about money and politics than the team's record.

Kind of a bummer--I really hope I'm wrong!!!

go falcons!

yadlin; you are partially correct about bowl games. There are some bowl games where the "X Place" of this division plays "X Place" of another division. In that case, they really can't stop a team from going to that bowl game. For instance; 1st place mountain west will go to the Las Vegas bowl against #4/#5 PAC-10. (I might be wrong on placing, don't have chart in front of me). Either way, that is the bowl game.

That is the same for about 3 bowl games. Now there are 2 caveats. 1st; you have to have at least 6 wins to be bowl eligible. So sometimes even though it might be a supposed division that should be there, the teams with 6 wins or greater may already be at one of the other bowls, so there isn't an available team. 2nd; If the division bowls are filled up and you still have teams that are bowl eligible, some bowls may indeed not pick them because of their fan turnout. In that respect, you are correct. But, if Air Force was to be #1 in the Mountain West, they would get their bowl game even if no one showed up.

What an awesome game...being in Notre Dame stadium for that was unbelievable.

And on another note, my hat goes off to the Notre Dame fans. I have never been greeted and congratulated with more respect and friendliness, nor thanked so much for my service, by any other fans. Even with their team in shambles in the worst year of ND football history, we all felt like honored guests in South Bend. Thanks, Notre Dame!

I attended my first ND game ever Saturday. What an absolute honor and pleasure to be on that campus. The Air Force cadets and their families were very impressive. The atmosphere on campus was so friendly. The entire stadium singing the National anthem and America The Beautiful. The flyover of the Air Force fighters. The priest who said Mass in the crypt church after the game extolling the courage and generosity of our beloved veterans and saying what an honor is ND's to host the military academies' teams on campus. It really is a mutual admiration society.

Ditto on all the comments with those attending..I too was there with my 4degree S, who was NOT on restriction..... :) 3 rows up from the wall South End Zone..... I forgot how many touchdowns were scored right in front of us....

Nice job D&B......Outstanding! :)

Dick Vitale has a great sound clip on ESPN.com about the game. Go to the falcons football page and listen to the clip. I took it kind of insulting when Vitale mentioned the recruiting classes, however he makes some great comments about Chad and the team...Coach Calhoun also has a great sound byte about our football players.
