Minority admissions programs work not because they give black students access to the same rich cultural environment as white students, or any other formal vision of engineered equality. They work by giving black students access to the same white students, as white students, by allowing them to make acquaintances outside their own social world, and so shortening the chain lenghs between them and the best jobs.

We don’t need another Affirmative Action debate. There are already thousands of threads on CC about it.

Here is the major thread dealing with Affirmative-Action related topics:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/927219-race-college-admission-faq-discussion-8-a.html?highlight=race+FAQ

Can you prove that statement?

Did you mean to ask whether I could support the statement? If so, I cannot. But I would be enormously surprised if the number were less than 2,000-3,000.

There are 240 archived from 2004-2010 with the phrase “Affirmative Action” in the title. I would assume that only a small percentage of threads about race in admissions include “Affirmative Action” in the title.

 at OP.

How did you determine that?

^I’m guessing search function.

^ I still don’t see how.

Thank you for squashing this pointless redundancy early. Seriously.

Search yielded the maximum of 200. I retooled the search to do newest to oldest, by OP date. Then I noted the last thread’s title, OP, and date. Then, reversing the order, so it was from oldest to newest, I revealed 40 older threads before the aforementioned “last thread” came up.

silverturtle, I checked and I would agree with you. At the very best, one can only search for threads with the words affirmative action in the thread, even if the thread isn’t about that. When using the search through tag function, I only found 33.

EDIT: BillyMc’s methods worked for me. Either way, we don’t need another one of these threads.

Ah, I never noticed that there was the option to just search titles.

Note: I was agreeing that there are likely well over a thousand threads dealing with affirmative action/race in admissions. Searching “Affirmative Action” by individual post continues to run into the 200 limit, though. Seeing that there are 240 threads with “Affirmative Action” in the title, one can infer that there are many times that about race and admissions without that in the title.

There’s over 200 with race in the title. There might be some overlap, but still, thuosands of threads is not an overstatement.

The correct answer to this was “That’s because it’s above your clearance” but oh well.

I’m quite bored, so conducting a more in depth (if incomplete) study.

Indeed, a missed opportunity.

Well, you can add that thread about quadruplets to your list. :)

This is how I feel at myself:

Okay, so here is what I found, through a searching of subforums I figured would have things about AA in them (didn’t feel like doing the longer search on 200+ to pinpoint number or call it 400+). Naturally, not all of these are 100% about affirmative action, and naturally, MANY are not listed (also, the old CC site isn’t archived here).
