I'm tipically known as a pretty liberal guy, but this is one policy that I can't stand. IMO, the most QUALIFIED candidate should be accepted a position to a said University. You wouldn't hire an underqualified URM as a neurosurgeon over a more qualified guy who actually knows what he/she is doing, would you? I'm Caucasian and have an older brother that goes to Caltech, which, I hate to say it, is made up of mostly people of Asian origin. I have absolutely NO problem with that. Caltech has a policy in which I support where they select admits solely on talent. If Asian people happen to be more talented than others, so be it. They deserve to be admitted over others with less admirable apps. I think URM's should be subject to the same competition as others; being a race of rare origin has no place in the admissions process. So enough conservative ranting on my part; post your view!

…What makes me a ■■■■■ for posting my opinion and asking for others? I think you’re the ■■■■■.

And Youdon’tsay and Shrinkwrap, I believe I said UNDERQUALIFIED URM. You guys are missing the point. If a URM happens to be qualified for a college ahead of others, then its all fine! Admit them. I just oppose any admittance of a less qualified person over a more qualified applicant solely based on their race.

…Sorry. I guess I was under the impression that the CC community was actually a group of people who didn’t bash on new members. I notice that you all (except for Orangeblood, who didn’t say anything besides calling me a “■■■■■”) have more than 1,000 posts; some of you with more than 6,000. True that I haven’t been on here as long as you all have to know the history of past affirmative action discussions, and true that I’ve yet to use the “search” tool. You guys are a bunch of jerks. Get over yourselves. If you don’t want to participate, don’t bother going into the thread. I’m sorry that I was stupid enough to ask for a honest opinion on a popular issue. I’ll go to some other college forum.

I don’t really think anyone here is being a “jerk.” Maybe a little condescending, but you must understand, the topic gets really frustrating after being around this forum for a while. Just take it easy. If you’d like to hear opinions, read up on those topics that have been so graciously linked.
