Affirmative Action

Actually, I did just move (cross-country). Though as a result of a union job that just gave my family health care, so it’s a moot issue now.

^Yeah but its just so much easy for your college flyer to have a smiling Asian Female, Black Male, White Female, and Hispanic Male on the front. (**** white males)

AA and various other educational policies implemented by liberals and decisions handed down by our worthless supreme court are absolutely the cancer of our educational system. admissions should be based on nothing but merit, nor should the allectation of financial aid. it’s a shame you can’t afford to go to college or whitey’s been keeping you down or whatever, but guess what, there’s a hierarchy in society and we need poor and uneducated people to form the base of that hierarchy. In the same way if you’re black you do not deserve to get into college any more then an equally qualified person of a non URM. And unfortunately all of our most prominent black political leaders (of which there are few and most are incompetent) support the racist policy of AA. Ridiculous.

Oh, not another one of THESE threads again…

Please, someone kill this thread. Everyone go whine on the internet about our problems to people who think they care.

Positive thoughts now…

I’ll start…

Today I had a hazelnut spread sandwich–which was absolutely delicious. Then I went to school and found out I didn’t fail my calc test that I was nervous about. Then I went to track practice. Now I’m just waiting to graduate so I can go to college.

Someone else go…

I tried to turn this thread into a workers’ revolution, but it didn’t go.

AA?Whatever.-sleeps-

@PlutOnium… Congrats on passing the calc test! The hazelnut spread sandwich does not sound very good though.

@Plut0nium: nutella?

Screw AA, if I’m smarter than a black man, then I should be admitted over that black man.

If that black man is smarter than me. He should be admitted over me.

It’s called logic people.

@Plut0nium, what event to do compete in?

The magnitude of affirmative action measures is enormous.

The converse, negative effects on ORMs, is also enormous. It’s a zero-sum game, people. Use your heads.

3… Once enacted at a certain level in the system, AA must be perpetuated up the chain, or risk be rendered ineffective. For example, you can’t give URMs free pass into law schools only to have them fail the bar exam.

We know that racial differences are due in large part to biological differences, not merely to environmental differences. AA is not correcting solely for racism or injustice – hence it’s not actually a ‘correction’ if you believe in meritocracy. It’s actively and ideologically carving the world up by race.

Where it’s not a zero-sum game, the whole society loses through decreased productivity.

Black people are so stupid and cannot possibly be intelligent. All of them should not be admitted to college because all whites and asians are better. That is the end of this argument.

Affirmative action exists so wealthy URMs will have admissions preference, leaving poor URMs behind.

“We know that racial differences are due in large part to biological differences, not merely to environmental differences. AA is not correcting solely for racism or injustice – hence it’s not actually a ‘correction’ if you believe in meritocracy. It’s actively and ideologically carving the world up by race.”

@cormy: What an idiotic statement. are you saying that Asians and Whites are genetically superior–intellectually–than URMs? Hmm…how do you explain, then, why Africans are the most educated group in the country and are highly represented at America’s elite schools and outscore their counterparts on standardized tests–Africans who are, I suppose, genetically no different than African-Americans.

Actually, modern day “races” aren’t even biological distinctions; they’re socially assigned. Indeed, the past few hundred years saw the concept of modern-day “race” appear from European imperialism as a justification for mistreating/enslaving natives.

[Unless you’re talking about this.](Scientific racism - Wikipedia)

The poor in general are usually left behind in an educational sense. I don’t have data on it, but I feel that it would be a reasonable assumption to say that middle-class and wealthy underrepresented minorities benefited more from college affirmative action than more minorities. Far deeper and more serious than any racial divide is the divide between rich and poor.

AA should be based on socioeconomic status. That is all.

Once again, a band-aid on a bullet wound.

Just eliminate socioeconomic classes.

^ Nah, it’s impossible to make everyone equal. Besides, everyone being equal is just boring.
