What do you all think about it especially relating to the college process? Just thought I would bring this subject up after hearing about the Supreme Court case. I'll let you know my opinion after I hear some of yours.

Hey Pierre, your last name isn’t Clinton is it? You know, if you want to take a survey before you tell us how you feel…

But seriously folks, I think this may have some effect. Those that promote one race over another because of the race may now have to think twice. Recently, minorities have sometimes been promoted over others because they are minorities. The rationale has been to give minorities today an extra boost to help offset injustices of the past. I think this decision affirms that racial preference is wrong; and for the first time it applies to all racial preferences. Perhaps this decision will lead to the elimination of the phrase “reverse discrimination”. Maybe in the future, illegally selecting one race over another will simply be known as “discrimination”- regardless of the race involved.
I won’t go into detail, but I once had an employer do the same thing. They gave a written test to about 300 job applicants selected by their apps and resume. They announced they’d interview the 50 highest scoring applicants to fill 10 jobs. When results came in, they had way fewer blacks in the top 50 than they expected. So they threw out the lowest 5 scoring whites from the top 50, and put in the top 5 scoring blacks that had missed the top 50. Their reasoning, was that since blacks make up about 20% of our nations’ population then thay must make up about 20% of interviewed applicants.

I think Pierre has the right to introduce this to Parents Forum. In view of the recent Supreme Court case, new discussion may be possible.

No one is challenging the Op’s “right” to do anything. The fact still remains that there are already a ton of threads on the very same topic (and this thread probably will end up getting merged into that one).
