There's nothing wrong with that outlook, dearkonstantine, despite what the PC crowd would have you believe.

Hmmm, quite the opposite with me. I had whites telling me to go back to Africa, but then I met whites who were genuinely nice. I met blacks who were rude, some who were nice. I met Asians who completely wrote me off and some who were so pleasant. The point is you will find idiots in any group dearkonstantine.

Just to add, I wrote one of my essays on the effect of Eurocentric ideals on appearance, specifically dealing with hair.

At this point I really don't care whether someone feels I deserved to be at a school or not, I will just work hard to shut them up.

At the end of the day, shaddix, it's your performance that matters and your performance that people will judge you on. So what if people tell you that you shouldn't be at UVA? Those people don't matter. If you get a 3.8 as a chem major and get into medical school, you'll be the one who gets the last laugh.

Don't fret i'm a urm african american and I was waitlisted too. Sadly, if you're usually waitlisted you don't find out whether you get into that school in June. : /

I don't get the admissions proccess one bit. Today i found out of another URM (african american) that was accepted. This girl has around a 3.3 WEIGHTED Gpa. honestly, if this isn't reverse discrimination than i don't know what is. : /

cav-my point wasn't trying to destroy affirmative action, it was simply to show how the system can easily be manipulated by the unethical--1/32 of a bloodline does not make you that race.

I don't believe in affirmative action, but I do think that it might be necessary until all forms of education and opportunities are equal. But it should definitely be based on life experiences; not finances or skin color. By the way, I'm a minority.
Also, while I'm here, I'd just like to say that financial aid shoul dbe based on both need and merit. Just wanted to throw that in.

"I'd just like to say that financial aid shoul dbe based on both need and merit. Just wanted to throw that in."

It is, at most universities. A few, such as UVA, Georgetown, the Ivies, Stanford, MIT and Williams don't seem to offer any merit-based aid, but most do.

dearkonstantine: "often times white people will try to be nice to minority kids, but i've often seen the minority kid just ignore it and pass."

Be nice? So they had to put in some sort of effort to coexist with another human being? Maybe you did not word this the way you wanted to. At my school, I notice both minorities and people who are not minorities segregate themselves. But I also notice a lot of racially diverse groups. My group of friends has got to be the most racially diverse and I would never choose to segregate myself. I guess for some people it's a "stick to your own kind" of attitude. That's too bad for them.
