I would definitely consider NYU. Their music dept is like a conservatory within a large university. Their game design program is outstanding and offers a minor and a chance to be part of that community. (The game center also offers BFA’s and MFA programs.)

Although NYU is not known for its financial aid, if they want you enough, they can put together very good packages. Your son certainly sounds like he has the academics, musical talent and gaming interest that would make him a strong candidate.

Good luck!

Or he could do game design and still be part of the music community within NYU. He can do a music minor or just take cello lessons each semester. D was torn between art and music. Is a studio art major, but takes high quality private voice lessons each semester. There is also a music minor and opportunities to play in ensembles.

@Stradmom, I am confused. Why aren’t they D1 and D2 (maybe I am math-challenged)! I guess your numbering system is S1, D2, D3. :bz (<-- I was looking for a confused-smiley, but chose a bee instead.)

Well, S is kid one, D2 is kid #2 but female…

The one that always stops me in my tracks is "D15)

Oh my gosh, er, let’s just say I’m friends with the author. LOL I will read what she says since I know she knows a lot from experience; it’s just been a number of years since our paths have crossed and I’d quite forgotten the depth of her wisdom.

Thank you!!

Just following up on my original post.

My son will be taking a lesson with the cello teacher at SDSU. He’s nervous, but excited at the same time. It will be great to get input from him on the pieces he plans to record.

Looks like the final list of schools includes three reach schools with arts supplement, one match school with an arts supplement, and one safety school with the arts supplement. So, he’ll be recording and submitting five arts supplements. Since none are EA, he’ll be able to record in November. He’s sounding good. Most or all the schools aren’t specific about what they require, which is nice.

If he does decide to major in music at SDSU (current choice is ME), he can audition live if he ends up attending.
