Affordable?

So sad. My D really wanted to go here and since all the other acceptances were coming in with huge amounts, we thought we would have similar results here. Financial aid came in and no awards. Loved the school SO much and now we move on. Today she will decide between her close 2nd/3rd and make that final decision.

Just wondering if others had better fin. aid results.

We didn’t have much luck with UScranton $$wise either. I had predicted much better. Out of the 10 schools we’ve received packages from, only one was more expensive, and many were ranked much higher. While UScranton was an academic safety, it was one of the few schools that offered exactly what D wanted to major in : Forensic Chemistry and Criminology. Unfortunately, we can’t take that kind of a hit knowing full well that 17 year olds (and statistics back it up) will most likely change their minds somewhere along the course…

D loved Scranton but was waitlisted for her major (occupational therapy). Hearing these and other stories, I’m kind of glad we avoided the probable heartbreak that would have come from not being able to afford to attend. She was more puzzled than anything about not getting in because she was accepted at several other schools that are stronger academically and are usually more selective.

I guess we were shocked because at every meeting they spoke of 90% or higher getting financial aid. We knew we would pay more, but the difference is so much. The other Jesuit Universities all made offers of at least $13000. There were other strong Catholic Universities making high offers as well.

When the difference between Scranton and the next University is more than $20000 a year, that becomes significant.over 4 years.
I guess I don’t follow their thinking…if you had given even $10000 a year, you would still be getting $40000+ from us each year in tuition. Instead, we now go somewhere else and give them $25000 a year of our money.
I really don’t feel FAFSA gives full picture. Oh well, onto D’s new school.

My D going to apply here also for ot. Can you tell us your d scores and gpa? thanks
