I’m not the best at math. In my entire high school career I got A’s in my math classes and since I want to do STEM I decided senior year to take the leap and try AP Calc AB. I thought that would look good as a Bio major. I was doing okay, but one bad test grade and now I have an 81 in the class. I’m really scared I might get a C in the class. How bad is this for college apps? I’m not applying to any ivy’s and my other grades are all A’s and B’s. While taking my first ever AP math class seems like I’m challenging myself, I’m really afraid this will really influence my chances of getting into college. While I know a C is just a C and the world will not be ending, I can’t help but wonder. Thanks!
General rule for most schools is no D’s or F’s Senior year. Some schools do specify a specific GPA but it really depends upon the schools in which you applied and if they require a Mid-year Senior transcript sent.
Up until now, however you learned/studied was working for you.
However, it is not. No worries, many people don’t find that out until college!
So here are some ideas on how to do things differently;

Stick with the calculus. You won’t regret it when it comes time to take it in college.
Do not worry, when I started AP Calc AB this year, I had a 22% and nearly dropped out. I tried really hard to understand the lesson and used the powerpoints my teacher uses, and was able to salvage my grade to a 87% at the end of the quarter. This quarter I’m doing fine I guess. So just keep trying and if you have any friends taking it, make a study group or review groups for tests.
