African American Outside Scholarships

Good morning!
I am an African american with a 3.9(4.6) GPa, 24act, and 1130(1700) sat
Any major scholarships somebody could suggest?

You might try asking on the AA Students forum.

Bump10char

Look at automatic scholarsips at HBCUs.

Thanks, but I wasn’t exactly looking at HBCU’s…except for maybe two.

HBCUs are gonna be your best bet unless you wanna try the ACT/SAT again.

What schools were you looking at?

Yeah i was going to try to get better scores. Are you talking about the HBCU’s?

You need better scores to improve your scholarship possibilities even for HBCUs. E.g. Praire View’s top scholarship requires a minimum 26 ACT or 1760 SAT.

Yeah i know…i really want a 27

The Jackie Robinson scholarship is a good one. You receive $24600 over four years along with mentoring and an annual leadership conference in NYC.

Jackie Robinson, General Mills(if going into healthcare), blacks at Microsoft (if going into technology or engineering), Gates Millennium, and the UNCF has some scholarships.

The first thing I think of is the Ron Brown Scholarship but it is super competitive, so your going to need to get your ACT score up. The scholarship gives $10,000 a year for your undergrad. Also, look into the Gates Millennium Scholarship. They don’t consider test scores but that also is a very competitive scholarship. What state do you live in? Depending on the state you live in, there can be a lot of local scholarships apply for those. Your more likely to get that then the national scholarships.

Also, are you low income? There are a lot of scholarships for applicants who are low income.

Low income: Horatio Algers, GE Reagan, Tzu Chi, Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship, Brian Jordan Foundation Scholarship. Other Scholarships, not sure if they are needs based: RMHC, Dell, Best Buy, Burger King, and the KFC Colonels scholarship(this one if only for public universities).

Thank all of you for your replies. I think i’m middle class. Are there any that are due this month?
