After accepting?

could it be that i've already got my wisdom teeth pulled out that i didn't receive the letter?
I'm expect to receive anything else after i've sent my original documents out?

Just an xray? That's it?

"could it be that i've already got my wisdom teeth pulled out that i didn't receive the letter?"

I think you still have to send it in because I got it and i've had mine taken out already.

My son didn't receive any request for his birth certificate or Passport, but we're thinking it's because they already have it on record from his attendance at NASS last June. He did get his panorex done (so it was within the year), and the dentist's office sent that in (and Academy has received it). His wisdom teeth are still in, and are not recommended to be removed for at least another year...so, we're letting USNA pick that one up; we hear the dental pros are fine at USNA. (And, our second option is that if he has time over on of the short breaks, to have them extracted at home then...) He does need to have a cavity taken care of (will end up being a crown), and that has to be done before I-Day. From our understanding, panorex is to check for any decay, orthodonture, or possibility of TMJ problems that could have detrimental effects when a mid is at 1-2 atmospheres (up or down). I know from my own experience diving, that you don't want to dive with a problem tooth. Trapped air in a tooth is not a good thing..whether up in a plane, or in diving (scuba, or sub). Pressure (atmospheric) exacerbates the possiblity of pain, etc...
He also needed to contact the various jurisdictions where we've lived and request the background checks. He called Admissions to see if he was on target with needed paperwork, and they said his file was complete as required to date. I'm sure he'll double check on the birth certificate/passport issue in his next contact with admissions. And, there's always the continued submittals of grades/any changes in ECs/awards as they're posted through the year.

jmwrites - Why would you continue to submit EC's/Awards or grades when you have an appointment in hand?

you will be required to send in a final transcript from your HS after senior year is completed- be sure to make this request from guidance before they depart for summer break!

No dental asked for here either.

And I think when they say notarized BC they mean a BC with the official County embossed stamp from your Place of Birth.

If sending in a Passport with acceptance, if the passport expires before I-Day do you think it matters? As long as it is current now?

MOM2Glittergirl ... The issue is to prove citizenship, I believe. If her pport is current and has been issued within the PAST 2 YEARS, you can send a notarized photocopy. Note they recommend NOT SENDING a passport ... only a notarized photocopy.

The precise instructions are as noted in my earlier post for the BC or other proof of citizenship. And as others noted, the dental panorex must be within past year. I don't believe it has anything to do with the presence or absence of one's wisdom teeth.

WP .. you are all knowing :) Hows tricks in VA?

So, to clarify, after submitting acceptance letter and associated items, son will not receive any other paperwork/info from the Academy until the permit to report packet in May?

We received nothing until the report packet. It had a checklist of everything needed with different return envelopes for different things. If anything isn't enlosed, contact your candidate guidance officer. Also some forms were downloadable, I recall. It was a nice pile of forms including banking stuff.

Oh, even if you have your vaccinations done and have the paperwork with you to verify it, you still might get vaccinated again...Thats what happened to my son. He just did what he was told.

When you recieve your permit to report packet in May, does it have any information on the completedness of your previously sent information (panorex, background check etc...)? All I have recieved back so far is my birth certificate and a letter saying they had recieved it, will I get any more information in the permit to report packet advising me of what I still need to send in to complete my file?

We did not receive any acknowledgment of receipt or requests for any missing items. Did get a phone call asking a question about the "brand" of meningitis vaccination which we replied via fax (so we know that they had the shot record) Funny thing is my Plebe carried a copy with him on IDay and skill got all of his shots again!

We also never provided dental xrays, was never requested in his packet, and Medical never came back to us asking for them.

I know it's a little late in this thread to be mentioning this, but I cannot stress this enough. IF YOU HAVE TO GET YOUR WISDOM TEETH OUT (YOU DO) GET THEM OUT AT HOME. You will get time to recover in bed, and proper care/sympathy, none of which you will get in the Navy. And, Civilian doctors tend to be about %500 nicer than Navy dentists when it comes down to it. Ooooohhhh....the stories...not fun. trust me.

A NAPSter.

rofl, wisdom teeth................ i could only imagine how painful those navy doctors take them out...wow

I was advised by my dentist that unless my wisdom teeth are giving me trouble (they're not) I shouldn't have to have them pulled. But he is not familiar with specific Naval Academy policy on this, so should I have them pulled anyway? Is it required?

My Mid has not had his out for exactly the same reason. During the Plebe summer dental check ups and his subsequent check ups at USNA there has been no mention of the wisdom teeth needing to come out. My son's Plebe summer roommate had his out during Plebe Summer. He got 2 days recovery in the room and the bonus to the roommates was they got the door closed for two nights. The only two nights the entire summer he slept without lights glaring in his eyes! His experience has been that USNA Dental has not been any different than gong to the dentist at home.

You will have to have your wisdom teeth removed before graduating from USNA. I would advise leaving them be unless you are having problems with them right now.

Really? I'd never heard that extracted wisdom tooth (we're from WV) is a requirement for graduation?

My Mid has never been told that and has been to the USNA Dentist numerous times.
