After your file goes to the Thurs. review..

As another tangential note, our son's BGO was non-responsive, non-communicative. Application held up while son tried politely bu persistently to get BGO to schedule the interview. That was all he needed. Finally heard from the BGO, who emailed to propose a date for the interview. Son responded affirmatively to that date...I'm not sure the BGO ever even said --OK, I'll be there then. He just showed up.

Interview went fine.

Never heard from him again.

I dont dislike the man or hold any ill feeling, but the glowing explanations of what BGO's can do to help and will do ...well, they don't apply to everyone.

^^^ guess it all depends on how much time they have available, the number of schools and applicants they have, the distance they cover (still thinking about that 535 miles- that is unbelievable!)

Our son was blessed in that we had 2 outstanding BGOs- and he/we still touch base now and again. God willing, he will invite both to commissioning week.

It would be fair to say it is a mixed bag, but the ones I have met left me convinced there are a lot of good folks out there doing what they can to interest the qualified and assist with the process where they can.

If you have a BGO that you just can't connect with, contact the RD and see if there is any possibility that you can be reassigned. It may not be possible for any number of reasons, but it might be worth the call.

Our BGO is just tops. And, responsive. But, Rangelady's situation is not unusual. In visiting with us our BGO related he'd just driven 400 miles (one way, and over 5 hours, one way!) to deliver an appointment in a 5 minute presentation at a scholastic honors convocation. But he said the high school that was farthest for him was 640 miles from his house. Oh -- he's the regional director, too! I know Rangelady's state, and she knows this one, but these aren't the only two with long distances for BGO's. As I'm sure many know, he said "it was worth it" but he is always seeking more BGO's to share the load. As stated earlier, he's tops, and dedicated -- and a good thing -- there's no "well, just ask for a different BGO" option!
