Rutgers?!? That was random. I'm an undergrad at Yale...where did you come up with rutgers? I've done research at Rutgers, but i'm not a student there. lol

cspg rules, Indian Med Schools are just as good or better than the ones here in U.S. Like Kiran said, don't underestimate schools just because they're a developing country.

CSP: sorry...it's just that your first 3 posts were posted from a rutgers ISP, and your last 2 from optonline. strangely, none were from yale. heading back in the morning for the start of classes?

I think it is safe to say we have drifted from the questions that can actually help others to random discussions that goes on in circles and in circles...for eons and eons...

On the side, India is country that is young, barely 60 years after independence with an overweight of population. When such is the case, world class research does not come as a priority to the national government - which in many industrialized countries provides for much of the research.

What a bunch of hooey that is. I suppose the starving people of Korea spend nothing on defense? Please leave the ignorance elsewhere.
BTW, as a clinical researcher myself today--as in i meet with my Pfizer sponsors in 9 hours--I can tell you that more and more of the clinical trials are in fact going to India. It seems even the research business has found the outsourcing benefits too attractive to pass up.

haha...psedrishMD...you are right. I take back my comments. Research is a big priority in India. I just went onto the IIT's websites, and it set my questions to rest. Still any questions...just google "research in India".

I dont have the time to read all the crap here.

As I stated earlier, I graduated from AKU. Currently I am at Johns Hopkins. There are currently 4 former AKU alumni, that I know of, who are faculty members at Hopkins. The oldest (AKU class of 90) is an assistant professor.

I am sure I dont need to tell you about Hopkins.

Aga Kha University was built in the mid 80s with an endowment of 400 million US dollars. Go and see the campus and the facilities if you don't believe me. Since the mid 80s several more million dollars have been spent. The Juma research labs were built 4-5 years back (6 million dollars), a sports complex was also built during the same time (4 million dollars), a cancer institute is under construction (6 million dollars), the College of Arts and Sciences will start recruitment of students (cost 200 million dollars, 30 minutes drive from the AKU hospital in the suburbs of Karachi, 15 times the size of the hospital campus).

The Prince gives 5 million dollars every three years for research purposes. Several AKU graduates have publications upon graduation, something pretty rare even in the US...

Now as naive as most of you are, no college in ASia (let alone India) can boast of such huge funding.

You would be pretty lucky if AKU accepts you.

Who would voluntarily live in Pakistan?

Who would voluntarily live in Pakistan?

In case you did not know, Pakistan has 160 million current inhabitants and around 20 million expatriates. Go figure out the answer yourself..

Several AKU alumni have returned to Pakistan, some of whom are listed below.

(Mind you, most of these are Harvard/ Duke/ Yale/ Tuft/ Ivy League graduates and could have easily landed a job anywhere in the world).

These are just some of the names I could pull off the AKU website. Of course there are many alumni working in other cities in Pakistan and then there are those who chose to remain in the US. Here is a profile of one such alumni...

Here are more Aga Khan University alumni, that I am aware of, working as faculty in the US. In reality, this list represents less than 1% of the alumni in the US- there are hundreds more that I am not aware of. I must also point out that the first AKU batch came out in 1988, which makes all these achievements all the more impressive.

"Who would voluntarily live in Pakistan?"

Many people would like to go back to their home countries to help out the people there. I don't think you've ever been there, so you have no right to make any sort of judgement about the country. Unless of course you are basing your opinion on stuff like Fox News which commonly portrays Pakistan as a place where you see terrorists walking around with guns and bombs, in which case you'd be an idiot.

Hi everyone
My name is Aainy. I am a junior at High School. Can anyone plz tell me how long it tales to become a official doctor in USA or studying medical in AKU.

You may want to re-read my post.

*No, what I said was not that one would become a second rate doctor, but rather that one would be considered a second class citizen when applying to almost any training pgm.

American directors of medical education are generally products of this system. They believe in it to the max, and they are often blind with unfair prejudices.*

America - do 4 years of pre-med (any major u want, but a pre-med track), take MCAT in ur junior year of college, and then 4 years of med-school once you get accepted to a med-school. (unless you're doing a BS/MD program or something)

AKU - u just do undergraduate stuff and med-school stuff combined into 4 years. Of course that means insane work on your part.

Thanks.
I know it's hard to study in Pakistan and plus it is even harder to get into AKU. But the only reason that I wanted to go there is that I heard that they only have 5 yrs of medical so it seemed easier an unbelivible for me but as I checked their website.... I was shocked 700 scores in Bio, Chemitry and Math?? I think if you get 500 in SAT II is a good score then 700!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Aga Khan University is wonderful in educating and the hospital in amazing in helping those in need.

As far as living in Pakistan, I think the suburbs of Karachi are pretty safe. The media usually chooses to show the worst in nations in Asia. But, I do agree the country is becoming more dangerous, but so is every other nation on the planet.

Best of Luck to those of you applying, the University is truly amazing.

I guess AKU is the best Medical University in Pakistan. Did anyone in here read about Shifa Medical College in urdu times?
I am not sure about it but I think it's a nice college but may be not like AKU.

.. hye ,
i just really want to ask some higly profiled st of aku about the procedure of aku pretest...i just have to take in thier test next year and i want to prpare my self from now . plz plz kindly help me and show me up the best possible ways to score highest mark....the aku prefer the students of my area but it would be wonderful if i score high ...
kazim

suggest me some good bOOks

AIIMS is the No.1 Govt. Medical College in India, and its graduates r taken directly in top US Medical Clinics like Mayo and Cleveland, most of the times without even an interview.
Kasturba Medical College in Manipal(India) has about 2500 alumnis practicing in USA alone...
