Age for Dorms

What’s currently the avg age range & requirements for dorms? I’m currently in a case whereas I cannot afford an apartment due to a disability. However, I no longer want to live at my current residence either. What are my options?

I think all 9 campuses have at least one (or part of one) dorm set aside for transfer students. Most of the students in them will be 20-22.

I don’t know if dorms have actual age restrictions-- it’s probably a form of discrimination if they did. At UCLA, I know a few people in their 30s, 40s who lives in the dorms. I’ve heard mixed stories about how well it worked out for them, but that’s true for 18 year olds. Most older students opted for UCLA apartments which can be tough to get unless you have a dependent or spouse.

UCs appear to define “re-entry students” as including undergraduates age 25 or older (but check each campus).

Depending on the campus, re-entry students may be eligible for additional on-campus housing options that otherwise are intended for graduate students, or students with spouses or dependents. It is unlikely that they are disallowed from the usual on-campus housing for undergraduates (that in practice tends to be most heavily populated by frosh who have just graduated from high school; upper class students are much more likely to live off-campus), but re-entry students are less likely to want to live in that environment. Check each campus’ housing department for more information.

The average range is probably around 21.

University Village is for families, people with dependents, and re-entry students. Garden Village is also brand new and it sounds like they were offering some of the spots there to older students, since the rooms are single occupancy. The apartments there are 2 or 4 bedrooms.
